Provocative / Offensive Ads #1

I read here somewhere that the YSL ad with Samuele whats-his-name .. -the naked guy- was on billboards across the city -in Paris- like on bus stops and such

I thought I might mention that Marithé & François Girbaud ad from spring 2005 (by Brigitte Niedermair) that was banned... I actually think this fact of banning was more provocative and scandalous than the idea and presentation of the ad itself... :judge::blink: I personally love that campaign!

Sophie Arie of the Guardian reports on the city of Milan banning this Marithé François Girbaud ad from being postered, billboarded, etc., in Milan:

Their decision follows a ruling by the city advertising watchdog last month. This Last Supper "inevitably recalls the very foundations of the Christian faith", said the Istituto di Autodisciplina Pubblicitaria. "This kind of image, with a high concentration of theological symbols, cannot be recreated and paro died for commercial ends without offending the religious sensitivities of at least part of the population."

According to Arie, the company says that image was "inspired by" The Da Vinci Code, and is a "tribute to women".

Personally, I think the YSL ad is quite lovely, if only becuase it's not done in "p*rn-star-fashion" as so many nude photos are.
The human body is not an ugly or offensive thing; it's all about the presentation.

I love the Last Supper spoof...how clever! I'd love to see other famous works of art done like that.

I remember seeing that YSL ad when I was in grade 7... I was flipping through my friend's mom's V magazine and, well, it was a tad shocking for a 12 year old :p :innocent:

This ad was awesome. I'm glad someone had the guts to do it, put a woman in the center, and pick Ruslana (you cannot get better casting than this.). Love it.

Its funny how "shocked" seem to be all the Americans with that YSL ad. Maybe its just because they could not see it in american magazines but imo europeans are more or less tolerant to nudity. And the funny part is that most of the hardcore p*rn is produced in the US, Holywood is all about sex and so on. I love Amerika but this never stops to amaze me.
Please do not take it personal.

I really love the Marithé François Girbaud ad. I think it's beautiful and people really just need to be more open-minded about certain things... ^_^

Was that YSL shot around the time Tom Ford was the designer.. It would make total sense if it was.

The YSL ad with Samuel de Cubber is beautiful. The best thing to come out of Tom's reign at YSL:heart:
