I can't say that RL exactly excites me, but there are some great basics. I love the coats and jackets, they're good quality and cut well with classic proportions that are really flattering for practically anyone...
I saw the collection on men.style.com...it seems like a rehash of various designers mixed into one collection, overall it's not a very 'Ralph Lauren' collection so to speak, but I actually like it quite a bit.
oh what I meant by 'not very Ralph Lauren' is just the usual stuff I'm accustomed to...the rugby shirts, the chunky knitwear reminiscent of classic 'Americana'...I'm not too familiar with his higher end lines, but a lot of this feels like it was plucked off the runway shows of Europe, I also see some Calvin Klein in there...
It really is very classic Ralph Lauren. I actually think that RL is one of the most consistent and stylish US menswear labels, if you ignore the polo shirts and buttondowns... Hardly edgy or exciting, but safe and cosy with an elegant shape and sometimes subtly quirky details. The collars/lapels on coats and jackets are often perfectly proportioned.
It's like a more elegant Paul Smith on tranquilisers or something.
I think some of the pants in the first post are among the ugliest I have seen (they remind me of a more subdued, but no less ugly version of Cavalli Jeans that I have seen).
I like the coat the black model is wearing and the grey peacoat but other than that this collection is boring just like every other collection that him and armani and tommy and calvin do. Plain chic go so far until your wanting more......boring, boring, boring.
It just so happens that im going to the RL store today, to pick up some pieces. Im really a fan of the prep look, and i tihnk Ralph does this look way better than anyone else. I was into the punk rock "Pete Doherty" for a while, but i rather stay classic...and urban preppy. LOL
This season's pieces are great, but i mean thats what u always get with Ralph Lauren.
