Raquel Zimmermann

i think that if im walking down the street and i see raquel with a white horse i would freak out lucky u

To me the candid looks to be for VP. It reminds me of Emmanuelle Alt's styling but I'm not sure if she often does it with Chloe's clothes.
I'd be happy if it is for Japanese Vogue. There are two best editorials that Raquel shot in Japanese Vogue - one is by Mert & Marcus and another is Inez & Vinoodh. Seeing their collaboration for the magazine once again will be so good.

This twitter will interview Raquel via twitcam in a few minutes and they say you can ask your question to Raquel via twitter! It is in portuguese, so if anyone wants to ask anything just post it here and I'll translate and ask. Can't wait for this! :woot:

Great interview from Raquel  Also Gucci was shot in Rome, London and Morocco?

iG Gente - You're a very private person and you'd rather go surfing and skateboarding than going to fashion events, for example. Who are your best friends?

Raquel Zimmermann - I have a lot of friends in this business. I'm friends with the couple Luciana Curtis & Henrique Gendre, who also live in New York. Carol Bittencourt (model) is also my close friend. Reinaldo Lourenço, Gloria Coelho and Pedro Lourenço are dear friends as well. Last season in Paris we got together for dinner. When we're together we don't talk about fashion, we talk about other subjects. I travel a lot so I spend a lot of time alone, but I enjoy it. I was in Rome to shoot the new campaign for Gucci and I had a day off that I really enjoyed. I went to the Coliseum, the Sistine Chapel, I walked around the streets, whatever I wanted. So there's also this “tourist Raquel” in me.

iG Gente - You're recognized on the streets, people ask your autograph. How does that make you feel?

RZ- I think it's very sweet for people to recognize me, I'm impressed to see really young people recognizing me. The other day I was at a store in New York and 3 little girls, about 12, 13 years old, came to ask me for an autograph: “Raquel, Raquel, please!”

iG Gente - Everybody always asks the models what do they want to do after they're done modelling, but there's no such a thing nowadays: Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campell, Eva Herzigova, all these models are over 40 and still get a lot of work until today. What's you career plan?

RZ - Well, Linda Evangelista has the same agent as I do and she's still working. Everybody in my agency tells me that I'll work for many years if I want to. I love my job and it's good to know that I have this estability for the future.

iG Gente - Isabeli Fontana said she wants to become a designer "because models are just hangers." What do you think about that?

RZ - I think we worked a lot to get this recognition, to have the possibility to travel the world to work, to enjoy the profession, I want to use this to pass out a good image. People want to know what I think and what I have to say, I want to use this "influence" (she quotes on the air) to pass out something good. I've worked a lot to end this image that models are anorexic and a bad example. I want people to know that it's a job like any other and that models are professionals. It's a really good job, I feel blessed.

iG Gente - Do you have any charity projects, any cause in special? Gisele Bundchen, for example, always says her biggest passion are her causes.

RZ - I really admire Gisele for using her fame to support the causes she believes. For now, I help an organization of surfers who travel the world helping people. I love surfing, everytime I go home (in New York), I pack my bags to spend a week in Hawaii with my husband (Ruy Sanchez Blanco). I love the peace that surfing brings you. Today I heard about the Vacination Campaign for polio and I want to participate, to help. Tomorrow (12th) I'll wear the shirt at the Bienal. It's such a small gesture, it won't cost me anything. I think the world would be better if everyone did a little for others.

Such a great interview, thanks for posting! Now I can't wait for the Gucci campaign :buzz: it's really great to see her level of influence in the industry that even kids know her name (they should!). I never knew she has the same agent as Evangelista, the possible idea of her modeling for years to come thrills me.

:( missed this. Did you ask her anything, Thiago?

I asked her about what was like the shooting with the horse in the streets of NY, when I turned it on she was talking about the horse, I think she answered me  She said it was an irony, because magazines usually put up pictures of models walking their dogs and on this editorial she would be walking her horse  But there were like 300 people asking questions, so my other questions got lost in the ocean of people asking  I hope they put the whole video up soon!

Maybe Gucci is doing a "Around the world" campaign  That would be nice actually.

Raquel arrived at SPFW and she's already giving interviews! She's wearing the shirt for vacination against polio.

How was it to make that video of you dancing Lady GaGa and wearing Gareth Pugh?
It was totally spontaneous! I was at Nick Knight's studio shooting for british Vogue and, when we finished, the make up artist Sam McKnight said he had Lady Gaga's wig, the one she wore when she was there. I put it on, and on Nick's studio there are a bunch of cameras, we started to play with it. I grabbed the broom and started to dance.

What's your relationship with other models?
My closest model friends are the ones who started with me, the ones I shared appartment with. Luciana Curtis, Carol Bittencourt, Marcelle Bittar, Ana Claudia Michels… And another that I work a lot with and is my friend Carol Trentini.

How was it moving to New York?
Actually, I went from Brazil to Japan then to Milan, then Paris and lastly New York. To Japan, I was 15 and it was a huge cultural chock. Carol Ribeiro helped me a lot in there, how to take the subway… Thank you, Carol!

Balenciaga ou Balmain?

[Pause] I can't answer that. [Laughs] It's a political question.
