Oh, this thread is fantastic - I've had really dry skin recently on my chin and my jawline, so I'm definately going to check out some of these suggestions

Erin said:Thankfully, my skin doesn't get too horribly dry. But I have medium-to-dry skin. A lot of these suggestions are great... but unfortunately, my wallet isn't big enough for some of the nicer lotions mentioned...

i'm really happy with the way the shea butter is working, with the kiehls layered on top. i would love to try some of these other creams that posters are recommending, but i keep spending money on products that aren't working and it's frustrating to have these unused tubs lying around.

I just wanted to add that the tight-tight-tight some were talking about feeling is due to the skin being dehydrated- lacking H20.
Dehydrated skin does not need the richest products, it needs water! Look for a product with a lot of humectants in it- they bind water molecules.
Sodium PCA, Sodium hyaluronate, phospholipids, sorbitol, panthenol, glycerine, etc. I am sure you can google "humectant" to find a lot more.
Obviously, drinking at least 8 8oz glasses of water a day is rec., too.
Flaky skin, however, needs more oil, so the rich, luxe creams and butters are great for this type of dryness. I'd also rec. lots of wtare to keep the skin hydrated
Hope this helps some of you-- and I am a NY licensed esthetician

I'm also the same as you... spending lots of money on products that don't work. So I always worry when buying something new I guess I just have to keep looking for the 'perfect product' though

i would have replied sooner, but i actually got up and drank a glass of water after reading your post.
does shea butter count as a natural humectant by any chance?
and will a humidifier help those of us who are tight tight tight?
Erin said:And on the topic of good moisturizers... has anybody tried Nivea Simply Glowing? Is that nourishing, and does your skin really... glow? I want a moisturizer that adds a hint of glow to my face, and am curious if this is worth the buy.
Jane Loves Marc said:My dry skin was really awful, it looked dull and I had to apply a TON of moisturizer to get it fully hydrated.
Now I use this Khiel's Creme d'Elegance Repairateur moisturizer, and it's amazing. My skin looks moist, feels really hydrated, and is more even toned! If anyone has super SUPER dry skin, I would really reccomend it!
