Rebecca Szulc has been all up in everyone’s grill lately. Her face (which we assume is on loan from heaven) can be glimpsed in store window displays, glossy label look books, sides of buses, and even in Yen’s beauty shoot back in issue 62. Oh the memories.
Szulc has been hanging overseas for the last year, so our resident Monday’s Model photographer Amie Milne packed her bags for London where the two met up for this shoot. We chat to the Newcastle-born model between the camera clicks.
What’s your nickname?
‘Boots’ like Puss in Boots – a special someone gave it to me.
How did you first get into modelling?
I was scouted while shopping. I wish I had a more exciting story for you guys!
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A veterinary nurse. I’m a sucker for animals.
What’s been the most fun day in your job?
There’s been many! But the day I flew to the Bahamas to shoot was definitely a highlight! I was luckily enough to be there a week and the crew were incredible! We even got to squeeze in a couple of piña coladas!
What is your heritage?
I’m a born and bred Aussie but my dad’s parents are from Poland. Unfortunately I haven’t been, but the history definitely interests me the most! And also my family roots, I would love to meet any family I have over there. And when I do eventually go I want my dad to come so I can share it with him.
What was your oddest job of all time?
I’ve been lucky enough to not have experienced any bad or odd jobs. Although shooting bikini in winter isn’t pleasant… brrr! But before modelling, I worked in a fish market – scaling and gutting fish… that’s odd right?!
What’s your earliest memory of fashion or creativity?
Cutting magazines to pieces to make – what I thought were – really cool collages.
The most trouble I’ve gotten into…
Getting caught with a fake ID… oops! Sorry Mum, loooove you!
Are you studying or do you have any side projects going on?
Not at the moment. At the moment I’m putting all of my focus and energy into modelling and enjoying travelling the world.
What are some things you find really inspiring?
I find everyone and everything inspiring. The weather, music, exercise, nature, travel, love, my mum! But I think everyone has fought some sort of battle – and for them to still have a smile on their face is the biggest inspiration of all.
Do you believe in ghosts?
YES! And I have an obsession with horror movies. My boyfriends have always had to put up with watching horror movies on our date nights.
What’s a book or film you always recommend to people?
Candy by Luke Davies. Whoa!
Shoot one, attend Coachella with one, eat pizza with one – Jennifer Lawrence, Adam Sandler, Lil Wayne – go!
Ah I dunno. Okay… eat pizza with Adam Sandler, go to Coachella with Lil Wayne and I guess that means shooting Jennifer Lawrence… sorry Jen!
Last song you bought on iTunes…
’Come Over’ – Estelle
What are you excited about next?
New York, baby! I’m currently chasing my dreams in the big apple. And also visiting home, I haven’t been home in over a year and I miss my family, friends and fur babies so much.
