I'm super glad you started this thread, Ghost. I'm not religious myself, but I love religious artwork. Cruicifixes are a really strong symbol that muster a whole plethora of feelings and interpretations. When thrown with a grungy outfit, too, it can be really badass and ironic (in a good way). Also goes along with a victorian theme, which can be interpreted in interesting, extravagent and even dark ways ala Alexander McQueen.

Rue De Mail started their Fall 2008 collection with this amazing dress. It's not an accessory... but it's brilliant:

And who could forget Givency's layered crucifix accessories from the same season?

i love these Etsy ones with the pictures inside :o and the coins

so they all make these?
or they must collect them.. i can't imagine finding little medallions with Mary or a nun inside..

also: avamaxine's rosary  http://ny-image2.etsy.com/il_430xN.52269694.jpg
thanks for post prehuman!!

thanks for posting those, prehuman! they're all perfect.

i love the Catholic aesthetic, but i'm always apprehensive to express it, on principle.

I'm not sure of the logistics, but it does look as if they find trinkets and piece them together into something even more beautiful. The cool thing about etsy is that you can buy materials--cameos, crucifixes, chain, or whatever you like--in bulk or individual pieces. Bulk is usually pretty cheap, as well!

How do you mean?

(Just curious, I don't really wanna start a religious mess on fashionspot, haha)

those all look like medallions that one can purchase from religious shops, etc. I used to always get them from my priest and such when I used to attend church. I probably still have some somewhere.

would love to see ^
you're right, i went to a basicila in Montreal and they had a little shop at the front and back. i got a Mary pin..very sweet. there were also religious coins encased in a plastic sheet with some text
didn't see something as pretty as these posted though, they have a sort of antique feel to them

i guess it's like the keffiyeh- "using" powerful symbols to satisfy vanity. i wouldn't want to start **** up again. even when it looks so good. B)

I see, I see. Makes sense.

I find religious art to be absolutely awe-inspiring for it's beauty and it's connection to the past and it's epic dramas... I guess my reason is for the beauty rather than the faith. ^_^

^i feel the same way about religious art. any sort of medieval art does it for me, because it's so old, it's a little scary in a romantic sense. esp. Christian art. it's very powerful. i think Catholic-inspired fashion carries that same effect, on a smaller scale, and that's why it's so captivating.
