Rihanna gets new henna-inspired hand tattoo, flys celeb artist Bang Bang to Dominican Republic for 11-hour session

The singer flew the tattoo artist out to the Dominican Republic, where she’s currently performing as part of her Diamonds world tour.

Rihanna has a long-standing relationship with the NYC-based tattoo artist Keith 'Bang Bang' McCurdy, who has also done work on Justin Bieber and Cara Delevingne.

Gotta hand it to Rihanna, the girl likes her tattoos.

The "Disturbia" singer, 25, added to her collection of ink by having famed tattoo artist Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy paint an intricate henna-inspired design all over her right hand.

The celebrity tattoo artist, 27, along with colleague Cally-Jo of Bang Bang NYC studio, flew out to the Dominican Republic on Sunday to meet up with the pop star for a lengthy session in the middle of her Diamonds world tour.

"We drew on her hand from 7 p.m. to midnight," McCurdy told E! News. "We were drawing and changing things. I'd take a break and Cally-Jo would draw, then I'd draw ... The inspiration was henna art, we wanted something really decorative, feminine and sexy."

Rihanna recently got a Maori tattoo — painfully done with a mallet and chisel — on her right hand while in New Zealand. McCurdy's work adds to the preexisting ancient design.

"She had something preexisting on her hand," McCurdy said. "So it was a little bit of a cover up, but also making it look good … We needed to work with what she already had."

'My friend @badgalriri newest addition,' McCurdy wrote, sharing the photo of her finished hand.

McCurdy revealed that the overall session took 11 hours and that Rihanna even had to take a nap in the middle of their design work.

"Her hand is not something you can put away," he told the gossip site. "We went over and over."

McCurdy added that this particular tattoo was one of the "most challenging" he'd ever done on Rihanna before.

"This one had elements to it that were very unique, covering up pieces of it, combining pieces of it, making up new pieces," he said.

Thankfully, the "Pour It Up" singer was happy with the finished work.

"Ri flipped out!" he said. "Absolutely loved it, loved it! It's a hard thing when you get a tattoo and not absolutely love it. It's uncomfortable to have something on your hand, especially when it's in such a visible spot and she's such a visible person."
