RIP Grace Mirabella - 1930-2021

Absolutely devastating! She brought some of the sexiest and provocative work American Vogue has ever produced! One of the best EIC, Anna could never!

Grace was a legend and she redefined the working woman image. Although I am not the biggest fan of some of her work during her ternure, she helped shape the Vogue that we have today. Rest In Peace.

My view of her vogue tenue - overwhelmingly 'beige'...

Her book "In and out of Vogue" was worth reading however.

Somewhat famously, Grace had Diana’s red and leopard office done over in beige when she took over the reigns. A sign of things to come.

Rest in Peace

I'm a fan of her Vogue, it may not be the most "imaginative" but I like how practical it is.

All her issues of Vogue in the early-mid 70’s were utter perfection! So much Avedon, Helmut Newton, Penn, Chris, etc etc! I did not even mind some her late 80’s Vogue just shy of Anna’s arrival. Those Avedon covers of the late 80’s were absolutely gorgeous (just ridiculous no editorials followed up with them, would have been a sight to see!)

That was fairly common with Hearst's Cosmopolitan too in the 80s - right? The cover image may have no related editorial inside. I wonder if it was a licensing/cost issue for most magazine publishers then.

Terribly sad to hear the news of Grace Mirabella earlier today.

I've always thought extremely highly of Grace, resonate so much with her ethos and I regularly look back at issues of Vogue under her tenure. As @lucy92 already pointed out, Grace's book In and Out of Vogue is a total must-read (I've read it multiple, multiple times).

Mirabella’s Vogue focused on real women, in contrast to the fantastical and extravagant Vogue of Diana Vreeland
