Oh how awful! I always thought her things were adorable. You never know what a person is going through mentally and emotionally.
Just heard the news, my thoughts are with her loved ones.
very sad; such a whimsical fashion force!
may she rest peacefully.
i did see this on twitter, and someone speculated as to its relevance. who knows, but thought i'd share it here anyhow as i didn't know these financial details
I just feel bad for her daughter.. to be 13 and have your mother die of suicide is a good way to have everything life promised to be turn upside down and maybe never go back to what it could've been..
This is awful! And on the night of the CFDA awards?!
May she RIP
Shocked and sad, RIP, my thoughts are with her family & friends.
OMG. what was going on in her life that led her to this?
Omg, such terrible news! Kate went out of her way to maintain a loe profile, and while not the most trending brand, she still had tremendous respect.
There are no words, and reminds me of L.Scott, another amazing person lost to depression.
May they both rest in peace.
Kate's made a definite mark in the fashion industry. Her bright and fresh designs are still big among the youth becoming adults. Wishing her and her loved ones peace and tranquility. RIP.
I didn't know she was David Spade's sister in law! This is sad news, but it highlights that mental illness isn't always as obvious as we think it is.
The response on various sites about this news is utterly macabre. Some blame the husband (because of the note), her daughter (apparently they were emotionally estranged), money problems, the continued success of the Kate Spade brand (which I didn't even knew she sold), but it all really boils down to mental illness which in 2018 the public at large still don't grasp!
I agree, her suffering must have been unbearable to do this to her child.
Terrible news, may she RIP. Depression can be very difficult to cope with.
A lot of things that shouldn't have been made public have been. Why would the media share her dead body being collected and her private note for her daughter?
I'll always have a soft-spot in my heart for Kate Spade. When I first moved to Boston from small-town middle America, a Kate Spade bag was the first "fancy" item I bought for my sister. To me, that bag and her brand was a symbol of "big city" life..like a way of me saying "Look at me..I made it out of the cow pastures and corn fields of southern Illinois." And then there was that corresponding Jack Spade moment I briefly had for myself..
Oddly enough, I never knew exactly what she looked like until now.
I feel really sorry for her daughter, especially at such an emotional age.
I hope she is surrounded by supportive family and that her father really is there for her. Its all so sad.
It is sad and unexpected...
I have to be honest, a red scarf is a classy way to go. RIP.
