Rochas to close

why?! i love lanvin but i'd take rochas over it. i don't think their price range are that much different. gosh, i don't care if he does chloe or his own label but olivier theyskens should produce more creations! his work's always exquisite and very well-thought. i love him! those backers... suck, for lack of a good word. =) such a sad, sad day!

I heard a rumor that Ann-Valerie Hash has very prominent family background and connections, both socially and financially, and that's why she could present her collections during Haute Couture week every season. If that's true, I don't see good chance for Olivier Theyskens to follow Ann-Valerie Hash's step.

Funny, I was just wondering if that was the case. I can totally see it.

*CLANK*

That is the sound of my jaw hitting the floor.

:ninja:              ....

i actually teared up, guys...i'm in schock, i can't say anything coherent right now...

:o

i'm appaled! how could they? Rochas was becoming such a successful brand, and especially their last collection- one of the best.
...but surely another company will want to buy it???

wait...doesn't the article say a proposal to cease operations? so it might not actually close?

yeah but knowing PnG's stance, things do not look good for Rochas.

PnG has excellent PR and communication/market strategy, for them to announce something like that, its usually already heavily thought of and it usually stands.

Sighz

As much as I absolutely love Rochas, I saw this coming. The prices are just too high to stay in business. I am not saying the clothing is or isn't worth it, but only a select few can affors such pricey items. I second faust in that Olivier shoud make a lesser priced RTW line and make Haute Couture.

AVH never had any real financing.. she struggled a lot financially when she was about to set up her company..
According to the law in France she had to have atleast a certain amount to create a company, and she had just enough to get herself started.

Anyway, this is sad news

Oliver will find a new place. He is too much of a gem and inovator not too. Fashion needs him

I'm so upset!!! First Roland Mouret and now this... truly disappointing :cry:

I was hoping I had misread the title:cry::o:(

wow i just learned of this line about a year ago and loved those long ruffly edwardian gowns, i thought the designs were unique, sophisticated, and ethereal and could translate into great street pieces, like imagine one of the gowns reworked into seperate blouses and skirts

wtf??? oh well. I will dearly miss oliver. I hope that is not the last we see of him!

In all these years that I've been a dedicated fashion follower, this one has to be the worst news ever. I do have strong sentiments, not only for Olivier and his impeccable style and taste, but also towards his very talented team that I used to work with, some of them I know from the very start when I entered the fashion biz. ... Rochas had always been one of my most favourite fashion labels and I gave everything to represent it with passion and love in the shop... I loved every single show and I had positive feedback... why would it happen just two months after Olivier had been awarded designer of the year? The collection was evolving very well and I could definitely see it growing it's marketshare in future time (I never had fitting problems or quality issues, for instance)...

I am still hoping that somebody is willing to invest as I definitely think it's worth being preserved and grown... they only need a little further time.

I'm absolutely devastated and shocked, I never saw this coming.

What a tragic loss to the fashion world this is. I am sure Olivier will find a new place with ease, but he was so great at Rochas...

You know what I always wondered about?

Why did they not work on producing further, distinct fragrances if that is the way they want to make money with the name of Marcel Rochas? The only one they ever launched ever since Olivier took the job, Poupée, never made it big and the old fragrances are loosing a customerbase rapidly... nobody would know what Rochas stands for... it would be just a dead name if Olivier wouldn't do such a tremendous job.
