she is said to be one of the only two german actors who learned to speak french well enough to be allowed on parisian theatre stages. i owe her much respect for that.

and i'm fascinated (i still don't know if in a good or bad way..) how she forced her appearance to be as non-sissi-like as possible in her later years. her face changed so much, from the baby face she had when she was young to the face she had when she was older, she accentuated every impact life has left in her face. see picture above.

I've always loved Romy . I have seen "la piscine" ("swimming pool"?) dozens of times. I'm not sure about her sense of style though, but she was a really moving actress and woman.

Sarah Biasini played in a big TV production the leading role. The German title was Julie - Agentin des Königs and it plays in France, 17th century .
Sarah really looks much like her mother but Romy IMO was more beautiful.

I've just found the French title: Julie - chevalier de Maupin

But the oddest thing about her is, imo, the way her nearly-lantern jaw merges with her neck which merges with her shoulders. Seriously. My bf and I watched the beginning of Innocents With Dirty Hands last weekend and I noticed this right off the bat. He thought she was really attractive, tho, which I can see in a Lauren Bacall-gone-wrong sort of way.

Btw I don't know what Channing looked like as a young lady but I think she's held up fairly well for her type--blowsy, but not offensively overblown.

And yet you forgive this flaw on Michelle Pfeiffer?! Romy's more cute than beautiful; I wouldn't call her overrated 'cause her name is rarely, rarely mentioned in discussions of great film beauty.

I agree but it seems like a lot of the best and most beautiful actresses where unhappy for one reason or another. It's sad but true.
