Ronald van der Kemp Haute Couture S/S 2022 Paris

Clever, inventive, surreal dresses that go from print to 3D coming alive on the wearer, are simply beautiful. There’s a sense of individuality, character and such spirit to those designs that honour the traditions of haute couture with such freshness. I’m not so convinced of the separates, especially the lamé and satin that cheapens everything... (but I’m sure he knows his clientele well). And the kooky/quirky Factory/Studio 54 footwear and accessories sort of drag down all the looks. Similar in spirit to the current Schiaperelli— but this edges that offering out for not relying on those started-out-cool-but-now-becoming-annoying gold gimmicks, but by sheer force of whimsy.

Excellent as always, some of it is truly magical. He'd be so awesome at Schiaparelli actually.
I just wish he'd hire a good (art)director to streamline his presentations, and a stylist/editor to strip away the clunkers.

The fact that Ronald van der Kamp still isn’t positioned by the press, the critics, and the supposed culturati at the forefront of fashion says a lot about the current state of the industry, huh?

This slow death is truly painful to behold.

His fashion shows kinda killed the vibe and the aura that his lookbooks created. And I feel like he never really recovered from that. He probably wasn’t well advised.

This looks comical instead of daring!

I think he shouldn’t have been showing in Paris in the first place. London would have been more conducive to allowing his values as a designer to flourish. I personally don’t like this particular collection, but there really is so much to salvage from his vision and talent.
