Roo is quite an uncommon name?
Yes, my real name is Rupert, but I don't really like it. I prefer to be Roo. My girlfriend calls me Roo Bear.
Can this be public knowledge or shall we cut that out?
I don't know if that should be public knowledge. Ah, just leave it in, I'll tell her not to look.
But then she's definitely going to look.
Oh, yes good point haha.
What's good about being 18?
You can do everything you could when you were 16. It's basically the same; I'm doing everything I've been doing since I was 16. Oh no, I can drive now! I have a car. It's really slow. I have a picture of it on my phone. Oh no…. I may not. This could be really awkward. But I do have a picture of my cat.
What is interesting about Roo?
So many things haha. I can't start, it's just so interesting. I just need some time to gather myself. Shall I do bullet points?
He's hilariously funny. Or he thinks he's funny. He laughs at his own jokes. You should never laugh at your own jokes.
He drives a cool car. It's really old and slow. Ladies don't love it. I was gonna say, ladies love it, but they don't. They don't like it at all, as it's kind of rusty and disgusting.
I have a horse, who's name is Horse. That's a true fact.
I have no sense of direction at all.
I can cook. Soufflé.
Can you actually make a soufflé?
No haha, I was just making it up for this interview. I'm really sorry for the lie, I was just trying to be interesting. I don't really know what soufflé is really. What is a soufflé? It's really hard to make isn't it? I can cook pasta and pizza. I've done 5 things now haven't I?
Yes, I didn't actually ask for 5.
Oh you want more?
No no, you've actually overachieved on my expectations.
Oh, I had more. I can paint, ride a bike and rollerblade. Now I'm just saying everything I can do. I can swim 100 meters; I have a certificate to prove it. I can't skateboard though.
Can you (and I think you're gonna be good at this cause I already know you like lists and bullet points) give me some random ‘Roo’ facts?
I'm very emotional. In a kind of feminine way I've been told. I do cry a lot.
Aww what makes you cry?
Loads of things. I get stressed really easily.
Did you cry a little bit on the way here when you got lost?
I didn't cry when I got lost today. I was close to it though. Like I was calling you, and you didn't pick up….
I picked up!
I called you twice though, didn't know what to do. Was gonna go into Tesco and see what was there, waiting for you to call me back. I've never had to call anyone for direction help before, I always find my way.
Don't worry too much about it, my address is slightly challenging to find. And I did give you some moral support when you arrived. What else makes you cry?
My dog died recently, which was really sad. I've got three dogs, but now I have two. No actually I've got four dogs, cause I have a Chihuahua as well. But she's only small so she doesn't really count. But anyways, one of them died. That made me cry. I've never had an animal die before apart from chickens. I used to have a chicken, but a fox ate it. Oh and my cat, she got run over. Oh, and we had another cat and she got run over too. That was also a tearful moment in my life.
But girls tend to like guys that are in touch with their emotions.
They don't. Girls like a hard man, don't they. Well, some girls do and some girls don't. Girls like to be treated well, and the harsher the boy is the more they'll like them.
What is the perfect man like?
I think a mixture of both is probably perfect. You have to be not too needy. I don't know if I should go into this too deep haha. I have become a little bit needy in my relationship. She's like my counsellor as well. I can cry to her. She never cries to me, but I cry to her. Which is awkward, that should never happen in a relationship. They boy should support the girl, not the girl support the boy. That's our relationship right there. Oh no, she's gonna read this and go "what the hell…".
But the question was, what is the perfect man?
Oh haha, I went a bit off topic didn't I! He'd probably be tall and dark. Strong and rugged, and he'd be able to cook a soufflé. Yeah, you just have to have a mixture of both I think, and be able to understand emotion and be serious when you have to be. Protective, that's a good word. What did the caveman used to do? Providing! The two "p"'s. Protection and providing. There we go. I answered the question this time didn't I?
Yes indeed you did.
Good. High five to that.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to do children's presenting on TV, like on Blue Peter, or any other children's shows that are popular now.
Omg, you'd be so good at that!
I thought I might be alright at that.
So you can act as well as model?
Yes I've done some acting. And I want to take singing lessons as well soon.
So you can sing?
No not really that well, but that's the point of singing lessons isn't it? Haha it's gonna make me amazing at the end of it, like an opera singer. I want to be able to act, sing and dance.
Can you dance?
I can do the worm. I could do it now if you want? Most castings that are filmed I do the worm, so it's getting a bit old now. I could just pretend to do it and you could say #RooDoesWorm.
(He didn't do the worm. I also tried to Google it and couldn't find any "Roo does worm" videos. Slightly disappointing Roo, but there is always next time). I can do the shopping trolley!
What's that?
#CecilieDoesShoppingTrolley
Wow….
You can have that and add to your impressive dance move collection if you want.
Yes, but I'm not sure understand why you'd do the worm, then go shopping. It doesn't quite work as a story? I could split them up; go into one club and do the worm, then to another to do the shopping trolley. I could add the robot as well. People like the robot.
Let's talk a bit about your modelling.
What about it? My favourite pose? Haha!
Absolutely!
I don't even know how to describe a pose, cause you'll be writing it down. Stands up. Legs apart. Eyes towards the camera. Like blue steel from Zoolander.
That's not your move though.
No, but I've stolen it. I can of course do many faces and poses. And many emotions.
Are you enjoying modelling?
Yes I am. And I'm normally early, cause I have to plan my route as I live just outside London.
What's your favourite modelling experience so far?
I went to Venice for a while with Benetton, which was really cool. And I've done stuff for Calvin Klein, Marks & Spencer, Money Clothing, Republic and many more.
What would be your dream job to land?
Can it be more generic, like being a billionaire?
No like modelling wise, what's the favourite job you could book?
Prada or Burberry would be really cool. And Jack Wills. I went to their casting, I did the worm.
Were they impressed?
I don't think anyone is ever that impressed with the worm.
Is there anything else that you want the readers of Phoenix to know?
Does it have to be really deep and meaningful?
No.
But can it be?
Yes. Say something powerful.
Ok. The world is a massive place full of many people. I am just one person, and I'm hoping to make a difference through modelling. Thank you.
Haha that was both deep and meaningful. How are you going to make a difference as a model though?
See I didn't know there would be follow up questions... If I ever become larger than I am now; not in size, but in popularity, then I will use my influence to make a difference in the world. For famine and stuff like that. And models are just people. Shall I follow that up?
Yes, please.
They all feel the same as you, they have all been broken before and they all eat.
