Saint Laurent S/S 2023 by Vanessa Beecroft

You’d think someone at Kerring might put up their hand and suggest that it might not be an opportune moment to be enlisting a former Kanye collaborator such as Beecroft for Saint Laurent

So, anyone that worked with him should not be working again? You could sideline of a lot of the fashion and art world if you went with that sentiment.

I sort of like the second one, its giving Tom Ford YSL vibes without the clothes

I’m not saying that anyone who has worked with him should be blacklisted, I’m just surprised that a Kerring owned brand has okayed Beecroft. She played a massive part in relaunching Kanye’s fashion career, not to mention some of the problematic things she has said in the past - I invite you to google her a bit.
Don’t get me wrong, I actually like this Saint Laurent campaign visually, it’s just that it also has potential to be a bit of a risk for them as a company considering what has been going on in the past weeks.

I hear what you are saying. I think the issue for me becomes that we (the public) can poke holes in just about anything and find something wrong with it. Just thinking of some of his other close collaborators (loved them or hate them): George Condo, Carine Roitfeld, Riccardo Tisci...are we staying away from them as well? I understand the current climate post Balenciaga scandal (and now a fresh one with Gucci from an already released campaign), but I think it becomes dangerous that all risk must be eliminated unnecessarily; if that makes sense.

I haven't researched the things she has said, to be honest, but again, I'm sure half the people working in the industry right now would be sidelined if everything from their past was brought back up.

I definitely see your point, however, I just think we are starting to enter dangerous territory.

I roll my eyes every time I see someone use the word "problematic". Nowadays everything is problematic. You can't say anything because twitter mob will loose it's sh*t. The campaign itself is rather mediocre. I like the idea but it has been executed better before. For once I wish they had called Juergen Teller instead.

This is the Spring 2023, otherwise known as Resort/Cruise 2023, campaign. The Summer 2023 campaign (with the runway collection) will probably be photographed by Teller.

Saint Laurent have worked with Vanessa Beecroft before (for S/S 2019). Her visuals complements Vaccarello's brand of femme fatale, slightly cold, women. Perhaps a risky choice on Kering's part - especially since SLP and Bottega are their savior brands at the moment.

^^
The people you mentioned never did what she did. She once went to Sudan during the war there and contrived to adopt two children from a local orphanage. She only needed these children for her art project, and treated them like things. In addition, her behavior was outrageous, she didn't care about the local culture and was outraged that she couldn't use these children for the project. Her husband was completely embarrassed because she concealed from him the fact that she wanted to adopt the children. There's a whole documentary about it, because she is simply an attention wh*re.
Her "art" is visually pleasing to the fashion world because it's easy to place products and pretend to support art. SL is another one that works with her and there is nothing special about it. Tom Ford was one of the first, and this was at a time when her performance might seem fresh.

Fair enough, but why drag Kanye into it? "Cancel" her based on her own deplorable actions, which occurred back in 2008. No one cared enough to mention these things when Riccardo was working with her...

^You're right, but you have to look at it from a crisis management perspective. The holding company has a gigantic image crisis that affects its functioning and financial liquidity. Various threads are pulled out by public opinion that are not related to each other, so in such a situation you have to be careful what you are doing, and not create apparent risk. It is known that this campaign was made a few months ago, before everything happened. Many artists explain their scandalous behavior that it is blah blah art and people turn a blind eye to it for some time, in extreme cases for the rest of their lives, because then people who analyze their work subject it to criticism.
