My interview with Sasha:
You have been modeling for about 10 years now. What plans do you have for the future?
- Future? It's hard to get a grasp on the future. It's this intagible shape looming in front of you like a dark cloud. Not to be over-dramatic, but who the hell knows. I don't know where I'm going to be two weeks from now.
Through your blog I’ve understood that you live in NYC and adore Tokyo. What are your 5 favorite places in each city?
- I love eating when I remember to. NYC has the best range of food for a vegetarian. From the top it'd be - Cafe Mogador (East Village), Cocoron (Soba place in the LES), Taco Chulo (Williamsburg), Rabbit Hole (Williamsburg), Punjabi (LES). In Tokyo, New Koenji India (Koenji) and everywhere else is just for drinks, Moxie bar (Asagaya), 51k (Asagaya), Beat Cafe (Shibuya), Berry (Naka-Meguro)
Please tell the readers more about your writing career. I must say that I really enjoy reading your thoughts. Sometimes it’s melancholic, sometimes funny, today it’s a good travel note and tomorrow it’s your very personal secret. What kind of writing future do you see for you? Books, magazines etc?
- Ideally I'd like to leave the fashion industry someday. I told my friend that the other day and she said, "I don't think you will...", it scared me. I'd like to write novels about true life experiences, I try to pay attention to every day details in life. Travel blogger, also an ideal position in life.
What are your favorite books? What is in your 'must read' list?
- Besides almost every book by Haruki Murakami, I love the autobiographies written by physicist Richard Feynman. "Surely, you're joking Mr.Feynman!" and "What do you care what other people think?"
What places in the world would you like to visit first in the future? And why?
- Hong Kong and Singapore. I've considered modeling there before but I get too hooked on Tokyo. Singapore because it looks so clean, and you aren't allowed to chew gum. I hate when people chew gum.
I must to say that I’m in love with your style! But how can you describe your style by yourself?
- Oh thanks, I should really take more pictures. I think my style changes a lot depending on my mood and the weather. During the spring and summer I like to do a little bit of a vintage lolita thing, but winter I'm always heavily layered and goth. I like to try new styles out, and I REALLY love dressing like a boy.
What shop do you visit more often? I’ve read you love vintage. Let’s reveal the secret. Tell us about the best vintage stores in NYC.
- I do love vintage. I try not to shop in NYC because it's so expensive, but when I do I like to visit my friends place Fox and Fawn in Greenpoint, they have some great stuff, and they post their new finds on their Facebook page so you can see what's new without visiting! (But you should visit, Marissa and Beverly are fun girls) I always shop in my hometown of Omaha Nebraska, it has the best inexpensive vintage steals.
If you could live at any time or even century, which one would you choose?
- I'd like to live in the future when our minds are transferred into the bodies of robots. Maybe there will be too many of us because no one will ever die. We'll be miniature, living in miniature cities. Instead of the newest model of iphone it will be the newest model of "pod" for our brains to inhabit. Like that episode where Data's "Grandfather" puts his mind in Data's body, only...different. I'd also like to travel through space.
Let’s imagine. You have an opportunity to be an actress, a director, a scriptwriter or an operator in a movie. But you have to choose. Which job is closer to you?
-A director, I'd love to make documentaries someday. Werner Herzog is another idol of mine, and Wim Wenders. If only my voice was as hypnotizing..
Do you have a life motto?
- Ha, lately it's been, "Dress like every day is fashion week." It's kind of lame, but I just think everyone should dress however they feel all the time.
StandART questions:
-If you were a city what one would you be?
Tokyo! In your face, somewhat annoying, and deeply perverse!
-What color are you?
Burnt orange?!?
-If you were a song which one would you be?
Manuel Gottsching, Dream-Desire-Despair trio. That's my life.
