Anyone know where I can find a sewing pattern for spats? Or a cheap pair I can rip apart...I want to make some spats out of this apple green silk and apple green leather I have to go with my Tromp D'Oeil suit...

the spat patterns' shouldn't be too difficult to make... hm.

I'm not really sure how exactly it works quite though...I have a pair but I don't want to rip them apart for closer inspection...

You could trace them onto a lightweight paper.. and drape the paper over your shoe to see how it fits... add sewing allowance around what you traced... I'm not sure how the spats work around shoes, do you have a pic of you wearing the spats... just to see how they drape on shoes.

No, sorry...I've done a google search and all the pictures are beginning to give me a better idea...it's the exact measurements that will be difficult...oh, well - I can always make them out of paper first...

I made my own pattern for the spats for the little girl's Card Captor Sakura halloween costume. I agree with what Lena said. Fool around with some butcher paper, wrapping it around your ankle and noting where it needs to be shaped. Use that photo you posted as a detail guide for cutting the shapes. Spats are usually made of three shaped pieces, as you can tell from the picture, and sometimes a strap that goes under the sole of your shoe.

Good luck, and wear them in good health!

Thanks, AYLI!

I'll try and snap a pic of the suit with new spats after my exams, Brian...

I'll definitely be looking forward to those pictures, as well. It sounds like a wonderful outfit. I love your neo-neo-acid-tripping-Edwardian fashion sense.
