Does anyone know of any really good fashion design and illustration books? My sketches are kind of rough and I want to refine my skills as far as sketching is concerned. Are there any good templets for handbags and shoes as well? Good websites on this subject matter would be appreciated as also :flower:

Hello hautecouture_02
We have a couple of threads on fashion illustration in general
There is some good advice in the aspiring designers' thread too

Here are a few sort of related threads in the Careers & Education and Art & Design forums:
Aspiring Designers Lookbook - share your work
tFS Fashion Design Sketches Central
The Design Portfolios Mega Thread
How to draw...
Designer Sketches
Sketchy Behavior- Fashion Illustrators

I myself haven't used books
I learned to just draw and simulate textures w/ paint and other mediums
and also draw the human form well

Some people suggest a format for creating model's bodies for fashion illustration

As for designing fashion, I think it's helpful to learn about actual construction
For example if you design something, how do you know if you can actually make it.. if it's possible to realize, etc. ...

Here's a snippet from a designer's journal :lucky:
I remember in my first year at Parsons I was presenting a collection I designed (on paper) in my Concepts class. It was beautifully illustrated, the connection to the inspiration was strong and I was extremely proud. Then my professor asked the simple question, "How does it open?", and my pride went completely out the window. I had no idea how the girls got in and out of these clothes. The designs didn't make sense.

I have two books I can recommend you:

- fashion design techniques (ISBN 988974554-2)
- figures de mode et stylism (ISBN 90-5496-093-0)

There also is a book called 9 Heads. It is pretty expensive.

Anyone know of any good books for designing/making: shoes and bags?
under topic of shoes, maybe this will help you?
http://www.marywalesloomis.com/

it's good to skim it.. will give you some basic ideas, such as how to make a custom shoe last for your feet, what glue to use for the sole, etc. (esp if you want to apply it to men's shoes, i think)

let us know if it works out ! ;)
