for the first time lately i have started to feel like experimenting with shorter skirts and dresses . . it was never something i felt comfortable wearing but i feel like mini skirts / dresses are being done in a fresher, less tacky way lately . . the skirts look particularly nice with layering on top i think

and i think the baby phat picture is perfect evidence of that !

i actually think most leg-baring outfits are done terribly
which is why i have always been so wary of short skirts !

This "trend" works for me, but ironically, mainstream media sources are reporting that "minis are out" and that long, flowy skirts are in. I'd say they are concurrently wearable and popular. I've seen a lot of both on the runways, and I plan to play with both looks. I've always been partial to showing leg, myself.

Now let's talk footwear. How would you dress up your feet with these short-shorts and short skirts/dresses? Or do you think the ladies are wearing the perfect shoes to match the respective outfits?

i like the ankle boots at isabel marant best

nothing too strappy or open on the feet
i think something a bit heavy works to balance proportions
because there isnt much material around your legs . .

And we've all seen Marni's infamous shoe lineup this season. I think all these styles are architectural and funky enough to keep any of the short skirted looks from looking tartish or cheap. I've seen some technophilic (Sportilletto-aping) wedges and platforms that come across a bit too Spiceworld 1997 to give the the right panache. The 90s may be back, but those can stay in the closet. ;D


In keeping with the t-strap revival, I happen to think these Alberta Ferretti shoes would look amazing with almost any amount of leg showing. I plan to buy them:

And last but not least, I too really admire the way Marant paired the ankle booties with those outfits; of course, this may not work on all women's bodies. I'm thinking peeptoed oxfords in bold hues would be an unexpected and joyful addition to many barelegged styles this season.
