Side ponytails

Some of my very stylish friends with shoulder length hair have been pulling their hair back and to the side in a little side ponytail knot with the ends poking out. I agree that this looks chic in the tradition low ponytail but on the side?
Does anyone know where this trend originated? In or out?

very low and sleek is maybe ok. high and on the side isn't even ok on a 5 year old and anyone doing it needs to have their hair ripped out at the scrunchie.

yes as long as it's not the top/middle side of your head than it's fine. Low is great though! like Mischa Barton (Marissa) on the OC! Love the look. It's hard to keep in though..would you guys suggest a reg. ponytail holder or something else ?

I love side ponytails and side buns; they're so easy and simple and you forget that you're wearing one of the most basic hairstyles.

I do low and on the side all the time.... easy peasy really...
But sometimes I take it higher and then wrap the hair around into a bun so it looks like a croissant at the side...
I do sometimes take it really high though so that its like poking up in the air... but only for the comedy value...

i love doing this. it looks great and it is very easy. i use a normal hair elastic band, tie it low on the side and wind a piece of hair around the band (to hide the elastic) and bobby pin the end bit down. this works on long and short-ish hair

i do this a lot when my hair is being stubborn...just make sure its LOW, otherwise you could end up looking like the worst side of the 80's.

I also make sure my side fringe it out too for a side pony, it balances things up i think.

I love doing my hair like this. Its so nice because when I wear my hair down I often find that I pull all of it over one shoulder. I would NEVER EVER wear it high and to the side. I hated it when I was young and I will continue to hate it.

I wear my hair on a low side pony tail too, but I have super long hair so it looks like it's just down anyway, hahah.
