This line is launching in May on QVC. I read in the Wall street Journal that she is also doing ipod covers for Target. Part of her prize on the show was winning representation by Designers Management Agency, which seems to be very aggressive in finding deals and collaborations between designers and retailers. I think part of the allure in designers doing QVC deals is the duration of the event. its also a quick money-maker. The warehouse can be full and completely sold out within an hour. there's also not a lot of advertising that needs to be spent in these deals.

Designer News. From the Runway to QVC? Winner Chloe Dao Partners With QVC.
Not exactly what you expected to hear, right? The winner of "Project Runway," season two, hopes to make the leap from small designer to mass marketing dominator in May when she debuts her 'Simply Chloe Dao' line on QVC.
Part of Dao's prize for winning "Project Runway" was a year of representation by Designers Management Agency, which approached QVC about a collaboration. "QVC liked the idea of working with me because they are trying to reach the younger market, and 'Project Runway' does have a huge following in the younger generation," said Dao, 34.
The line of moderately priced tops, dresses and pants will sell for about $30 for a T-shirt to as much as $75 for a dress.
In addition to the QVC partnership and her business in Texas, Dao is doing a line with Varsity Spirits and is working with LensCrafters to do an eyewear fashion show with Tim Gunn.
"The main reason I did QVC is to let more people see my work and to help Middle America be better dressed," Dao said. Amen to that! But, QVC? Whatever it takes.

those pieces are hideous, but very QVC

i wonder why they decided to take her line in this direction, away from high fashion and towards qvc

QVC is a home shopping network. Its Several channels on our TV here in the USA.

its popular in middle amera and for older women that dont get out to stores much.

in recent years there have been more a wider variety of brands shown on these television networks such as fancy cosmetics. i think the general quality of the items sold have improved a lot.

its useful as you can also buy items online and the items are discounted somewhat, even the cosmetics, which in the USA we cant seem to find discounted.

several channels? ive only ever seen one qvc?

Well, you promote a designer through television you may as well sell their clothes through it as well.

I'm not surprised by any of this, not at all.

The amount of money QVC makes is absolutely INSANE. Im talking millions in one show.

Maria Cornejo did a collection for QVC, and it was truly awful, almost worse than this...

If Maria Cornejo can't meet my expectations with the company (which, admittedly, are VERY low), than I'd hate to see whatever else Chloe has in the works with them... :ninja:

^ I expect nothing but crap from QVC, I only watch it for entertainment (seriously, I can watch QVC for HOURS on end), the clothes are just so beyond heinous, the bags are even worse. Actually I saw a woman at a car dealership in a jacket from QVC and I remarked about how nice it looked, god, she was like "why are you looking at womenswear on QVC?" Well... A friend of mine has a jewelry line on QVC and his last show netted him 5.6 million dollars. He has a show every month, they don't play. I kind of find it funny though, it's like Walmart, really corny and really unhip but serious money can be made.

When was she ever "high fashion"? I don't think her store in Texas was exactly the spot for cutting edge couture.

Urgh. And she expects to get somewhere in the fashion world with QVC? Maybe in contemporary and sportswear...but I doubt this'll help her much.

when did this happen? ?

Well .... all of this depends on what you want for yourself.
If your goal is to make money at "any" and "every' cost then this is not so much of a bad idea........ but if youy have any kind of design integrity and want to do whats really in your heart then regardless of the money, you wont want to do something like this.
you can pretty much figure out which route she wants to take, and what her objectives are.
I know of QVC but dont watch it or care for what they do.... Its really amazing that as a designer there is so much that is associated with Fashion and clothing that i have absolutely no interest in.
I dont even watch Project Runway anymore (not from the first season) as i think its no different from the regular reality shows where contestants are nothing more than an entertainment novelty who have thier fifteen minutes of fame and nothing else when its all over..............

thank GOd for TFS......... as this is one of the few places that i enjoy being a part of that is all about fashion.........

You are assuming that she wants to be the next John Galliano, Coco Chane or Azzedine Alaia.

I think Chloe knows that she's not Alber or Nicholas, but she wants to make "pretty" clothes for women and reach a wide market. This seems like a good deal for her and her brand.

Not necessarily. Cheapening her brand or image this early in the game can easily cause problems later in her career. Generally it's harder to move up the ladder pricing-wise than it is to drop down.

if its good enough for Joan Rivers its good enough for me.

but seriously, you can't begrudge the girl trying to make a buck AND getting at least a small part of her message out there to the mass public. she was a real sweet heart, I am sure she will be great on air charming all of those mid-western women.

It may have been nearly two years ago, if my inner time frame serves me well, as I remember viewing it when it aired... I just checked, and there are items still available online, albeit without the benefit of an on-air host more enthusiastic than myself  The line is called One Maria Cornejo, which I thought was somewhat memorable, though I would've preferred the possible Below Zero...
