An odd question: Shoewise, I've been a US women's size 8 - 8.5 for the past decade, and suddenly (in the past few months), I'm a perfect, textbook size 7. After a recent Cinderella-moment with a 6.5, I began to wonder if the vanity-sizing so omnipresent in women's clothing is starting to infect the shoe industry....has anyone else noticed this?...or are my feet just shrinking?

^did you lose any weight? I wish my feet would shrink.

Funny you should ask because I almost posted pondering the complete opposite!!

My feet suddenly seem to be tight in some of my shoes that fit perfectly before  I've heard that noses and ears continue to grow through life, but could this be true of feet as well?? Maybe I just took into much salt and was on my feet for too long at the same time?? I'm definitely not pregnant so that's not it :p Strange...

I've never heard of shrinking feet either... even stranger :ninja::lol:

I've not lost an appreciable amount of weight (at least, not in the past few months), and shoes that I've owned for years still fit me the same way they always have. It might be endemic to certain brands; Aldo is the first that pops into mind, but not exclusively.

^It wouldn't surprise me if brands change their manufacturers from time to time - I know one supercheap brand (Splash) changed factories and I went from a 10 down to a 9 for a while, until they got their quality control back into shape (at least the change in factories was how it was explained to me by the rep)

I have definitely not noticed anything like this in shoe fit (shoes getting bigger).

Curious, my feet have grown from a 7 in high school (btw, I had my full height such as it is in jr high--I was actually tall for a couple years :p), to a 7.5, and now 8 for some years. I still have a couple pairs of the smaller shoes around I think. Actually my L foot is an 8, my R foot is 7.5, they've always been a half-size different. I don't have any children ... have wondered if what happens with pregnancy is just bringing on something that would happen anyway like it has with me ... perhaps we can solve this mystery here and now :D

It's just like that with me with different sized feet. My right foot always feels a little tighter in shoes, I always get blistered just on my right foot. It's annoying but my doctor said it's not uncommon.

And yes, your feet DO get bigger over time; not sure if they continue to grow, or if they just spread out.

^ Hmph  Just like the nose and ears, then. I think that feature of human nature is so strange...

Thanks for all the thoughts :flower:

i've been a nine for quite some time now but lately eights are all fitting. it's strange.

shrinkage

It's the funniest thing, but over this past summer, 2-3 months or so, my feet have shrunk. I used to be a solid 6.5, but I just bought 2 boots that were 5 and 5.5 respectively. Also, none of the sneakers that I bought at the beginning of the summer fit me anymore, not even when I wear my big socks. I'm sad, because not many of my boots fit me from last year. No weight loss...?!
