Snejana Onopka

hahah the only "bad" thing about her english that i noticed is that she said "byuruful" instead of beautiful. i think it was just a mistake and her english is fine. i mean her grammar seems pretty correct and people may think that she doesnt speak good just because of her accent. she will probably never get rid off it but that doesnt make her a bad speaker. (is that the right wordßß) :))))

Well no her grammar is not correct because after 5 years she still says "I'm started 5 years ago" or she pronounces think like sink/sinking. I just think she should've learn english way better in those 5 years..it's not like she's working only for 3 weeks per year..as far as I know, she did plenty of campaigns and editorials. Working with bunch of people usually helps. I can't believe she works with all those important photographers, stylists, make up artists and other models and not even talking to them. Awkward.

After her "hi" at the end, I felt like an idiot...like are you for real? Why does she have to fake a perky girl if she's not? First I always thought she should be more relaxed and all and now when she smiles more, I'm still not content because it doesn't seem genuine. I know I always seem negative in my comments but I can't understand you all think she's so perfect in her way of communication. It's weird. I tend to make a constructive comments and I believe I'm not being too harsh. Also, I know it's not common to comment a model's behaviour but I can't help it.

Well people are all different and there's no need to be annoyed when someone isn't 'perfect' in some aspect. It isn't her job to give interviews in English, she does that as a favour to the journalists. English is used as a second language by billions of people and most of them have accents and make mistakes it's no big deal - in fact native English speakers often like when non-native speakers have accents and make these mistakes. She doesn't owe it to us to speak in perfect English and if we're so interested in her talking we ought to learn Russian and watch her interviews given in her native language.

Everybody have their own opinion. Imo she doesn't have to speak English at all...she is Snejana Onopka...a supermodel....and I don't really care if she wasn't speaking English at all...I would like her anyway

Well said.

Can I just point out your grammar isn't perfect either? Am I going to pick you apart for that? Anyways thats beside the point and I didn't mean it as an insult. Snejana is a model , she is not paid to give interviews or learn English. As long as she can understand the general flow of things and carry on a decent conversation who cares? Its hard to learn another language , even if its been 5+ years. I know some people who've been in Australia for 10+ years and still can't speak really good English , its amazing Snejana can speak and understand so many things already in a couple of years actually..

Besides with Snejana theres a no-win situation with you. If she was being a b*tch , you'd complain , if she was trying to be perky you'd complain. Maybe she now feels its better to be more 'happier' in interviews as its more pleasant than being a nonchalant b*tch. I remember awhile back she was just being moody and people complained and whined about how she seemed to be so rude. Maybe shes trying to change her attitude ya know?

Another thing , who really is sincere in interviews anyways? No offence but this is showwbizzzzzzzz.

The thing that sets her apart from most, in this interview, is that she seems brutally honest. What does she want? More sleep. What does she wear? Jeans and T-shirts. No pretence at all....she is just smiling to the camera and by smiling showing that it's not meant to be rude or blow anyone off, she's just being honest.

And as far as the English is concerned...it's been pretty clear from the beginning that she likes her home country more than any other. Besides, I don't think her English is bad at all....she comes across as intelligent, honest and together, though perhaps fighting off bad feelings (depression, mood, sleeplessness....who knows).

I just thought since she's an international supermodel for many seasons now, she should be able to communicate in such a way that doesn't represent her as a little scared newby as far as the english goes. I don't remember one time she actually said something smart or deep. She knows they will ask her about the collections and therefore she should be well prepaired. Otherwise she seems just disinterested which is not a nice thing to see :( it's nice, it's cool...I love it...sounding like she's about to fall asleep....I would never ever give interviews if I were her. I'm not, you don't have to remind me, it's just that there are so many other models whose interviews I've never seen and so when I see hers I just roll my eyes thinking "here we go again".

Werbowy I'm not a native english speaker but certainly I make less mistakes than miss Onopka and I'm not even in the bizz so I don't see why you had to point that out. Haha there's this saying "offence is the best defence". Thanks.

god this thread made me laugh

seriously what's the deal with some people dissecting models in their interviews  she's
still making sense in the video, clearly she's not speaking word salad there, and if she seems
rather detached does it really matter? that's always been her personality as far as i can remember
and oddly enough her nonchalance is one major reason why fans find her endearing. we cant
do anything about it so we might as well just suck it up.

So what if she's not a native english speaker, is this the reason to treat her differently? Should they all talk to her in her native language? I don't get it...why shouldn't she speak english? You ought to learn it in order to work abroad. I was always thinking how is she while working surrounded by different people. Does she talk to them? Does she sit all alone not wanting any contact with anyone? Ok it's none of my business. Just thought it's worth discussioning but obviously none of you agrees. Snejana is perfect the way she is, right? Cool.

It's true that a normal looking girl with Snejana's demeanor wouldn't have many fan clubs because shy, awkward people seldom do. But the fact is she is one of the most beautiful women that exists. And, in fact, what makes her more beautiful than Paulina Poritzkova is that sadness, that something that makes you wonder....

Given that you, Flyest, really don't seem to like her much, this is probably just going to freak you out even more - but the juxtaposition between a face that can launch a thousand ships and the demeanor of a depressed person has an uncommon allure.

I never questioned her beauty.

Just that one time when her nose and mouth seemed somehow different :) ahah

Snejana has never said that her dream job was modelling. She has always said that this is temporary. Why should she give a rat's as* if people don't like her accent? She is obviously able to communicate with her agency and with clients, so I don't see the problem with her English not being perfect. So there's really nothing to, ahem, discussioning.

And when have models ever come up with deep profound answers to the question "What do you think of this collection?"? Never!

She is the part of this "machinery" so she should know something about the whole process. When she describes the clothes we get the feeling like it's something ordinary. She doesn't feel the need to say anything except it's sexy, I love it...like it's garbage. I never saw a genuine excitement in her approach to fashion. Sure it's her problem, not mine but it's just sad. At first I was interested in her sad kind of beauty but as someone already mentioned she always appears sad and bored. It's not that special or interested anymore. It's one thing if she just appears sad when she's not but it's quite a problem if she's really sad. She should get help then. You know, I'm just saying...

Well, I adore her cause she is always bored
It's so cute.
If you don't like her, don't go to this thread :flower:

^She doesn't need to take interest in the clothes, she just needs to walk down the runway. Which she coincidentally is really good at :D

Are people really annoyed about her English? I'd like to see us attempt to learn her language. It's not like speaking English is a major part of her job. I think us English speakers take our language for granted because it's considered to be a universial language. I mean look at this site. There are a variety of nationalities here and we can only speak English on this site.
