Sonia Szóstak, born in Poland . In 2016, she graduated from the Cinematography Department at the Leon Schiller Film and Theatre School. Her photographs have been displayed at numerous exhibitions, including Corso Como Gallery in Milan, A/D/O Gallery in New York, The Ballery in Berlin or LEICA Gallery 6x7 in Warsaw.

Fashion photographer Sonia Szóstak has been named one of the 100 most innovative and inspiring young creative talents from around the world by the British Fashion Council.
The NEW WAVE: Creatives list “includes trailblazers from across multiple disciplines from artists, activists, casting agents, commentators, florists, hair and makeup artists, image makers, nail artists, set designers, stylists and writers”, according to the Council.
Szóstak, born 1990, received the recognition in the ‘Image Makers’ category for her work as fashion and portrait photographer.
Her style includes intimate shots of women, images focused on bodies and movie-inspired photos.
Despite her young age, she has already worked for some of the most prominent fashion brands and magazines in the world, including Vogue, Porter Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, British and Italian Rolling Stones.
Her iconic Balmain campaign with supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne, consisted of three short movies called ‘The Choice’, went viral.
The body-centric images and dreamy quality of Szóstak’s work were especially visible during one of her individual exhibitions in Warsaw’s Leica Gallery 6x7.
The curators commented: “When taking photos Sonia Szóstak explores the abilities of the body in motion, grabs them outside of time, and at the same time in a thoroughly contemporary manner.
“The graceful heroes of Szóstak photography are models and friends, captured in light dance poses. The works reflect the author's generation immersed in dreams of what is unreal, elusive, beautiful.”
Her impressive portfolio garnered the attention of the British Fashion Council’s international panel of 2,500 fashion industry insiders, who were asked: “to nominate those they believed to be the best young creative talent in today. The criteria was to vote for the most creative new wave of talent across creative disciplines in fashion not including designers and models.”
Szóstak definitely fits the criteria. While beauty is a common theme in her work, she looks for something deeper in her models, not just the outer good looks, but a spark that will catch the viewers’ interest and fascination.
In interviews the Paris-based photographer admits she’s only interested in photographing women.
In her opinion, understanding between two women creates a strong emotional bond between the model and the photographer, leading to more personal, natural shots.
