Sruli Recht-Icelandic designer

^Scott, thanks for reminding me about the AF Vandervorst influence...particularly the FW 2000/2001 "Horses" collection I think. I actually quite enjoy the severity of the construction since it only emphasizes the androgyny of his designs...I think it's also just a matter of styling also:blush:

oh yeah that's right....
thanks scott for the reference and kiddo for the iconography

you're probably right about the styling, kiddo. i just wish there was something perhaps a bit more romantic thrown into the scheme of things. i mean just to balance everything out or break up the monontony of the stupendous structures. i love strong structures and that's really part of my own taste but i like something romantic in vein or playful.

I agree that he doesn't have much of an eye for flattering the female figure, and although I do love the Constricted Suit the pant would not be at all flattering to any body aside from a model's. Talented designer, but a tad unwearable.

unwearable?

tell that to the exotic animals, walking around without their skins

BIG no no for using these materials, no matter how interesting the sculptural forms he uses.

And also, I think it looks a bit unoriginal. It would be more surprising to see these beautiful shapes in a less obvious material ( a fabric that would actually be a challenge to use)

But again, far, far, far too primitive in his use of exotic materials (sealskin!! Are you fcking kidding me??)

^yes, i do think the use of exotic animal skin is a rather turn off.

but i have to say i love his talioring

thanks for starting this thread kiddokiddo!

its nice to see the RMIT training has paid off for Mr. Recht.

a beautifully fitting garment that has an equally beautiful construction...is truly thrilling. especially for the wearer.

incredible talent.

:smartass:

these are probably the most disturbing clothes ive ever seen. Very hannibal lektor / Gulag

Some really beautiful timeless couture-worthy pieces here, but some rather stupid cliches as well, eg. the S&M stuff. Also hate the animal skin thing, even though it does echo his aesthetic. Would LOVE to own a few of these myself, especially the capes and that double-layered skirt. The work is truly impeccable, great artistic construction, and reminds me of what haut couture should be about instead of giant bows and crinoline skirts. The talent is undoubtedly there!

Great to be reminded of the fantastic construction of AF Vandevorst too - been so disappointed with their recent collection.

interesting, although not my thing. the capes are nice. i like the shape of the first one, but all that fur and animal skin makes my skin crawl.

i loooove the menswear of this. and the orange cape! v. interesting

surprised to have seen this thread stand still for so long. He's done so much this recent times.

Here is more of his inner geek.

I don't get a hannibal lektor vibe at all :shock:

I loove all of it, very unique and beautiful. I really don't like the fact that animal skins are used though. I'd never buy from a designer that uses real animal skins no matter how beautiful the clothes are

Not to be a b*tch, but Mr Recht is more responsible with where he gets his materials from than other fashion houses are. You're prone to make more damage getting a cotton t-shirt from H&M than you are buying a horse skin wallet from Recht. He develops and make all materials on Iceland in the local area, so no dirty factories or heavy chemical polution is under his responsibility.
