I hate the typical LV suitcases its like.. everybody has them and the 50% are fake!! so I'd rather buy some other ones like dior or something because the LV they don't shine the same happend with purses

For suitcases, or more weekender bags, I love the vintage gladstone or doctor bags. They are quite large, but more suited for the weekend. They look very classy in my opinion and they are probably where LV got their retro inspiration from for their Suhali range.

I am traveling a lot this summer. First I'm going to Washington DC and then to Europe. For my 22 europe tour they recommend taking this thing called the "travel backpack" It opens like a suitcase and it carries like a backpack

do you have a link to an example?

As for toiletry kits, I'm currently using the Spacepak:toiletry from Flight001

its pretty good, except I would prefer the outer shell to be more water resistant (haven't had an issue yet, but I can forsee it as a possibility for trouble).

I'd never buy expensive luggage, I travel very often and have had mysterious oil stains at the bottom of my suitcases, I guess from unloading them onto dirty tarmac. If you have seen how they treat luggage at airports, you would buy the cheapest and then in black. Attach a colored ribbon for identification.

Agreed. I just came from a long trek...From Los Angeles to Tokyo I saw my bag being loaded on the plane and just being thrown in when I have a sticker on there saying fragile on my little one which had some delicate goods...(maybe I should have written it on there in Japanese too:unsure: )

Then when I arrived in Philippines my bigger luggage came back with the handle broken when I put a sticker on there "heavy- avoid carrying from handle" My fault though slightly...your luggage should be only 70lbs....mine was weighing in at 103:blush: (Even more coming back home but they were nice and let me go even though we were waaay over the limit). They were stained on the back and the handles and wheels have odd deep scratches....now they look old when they were brand new before the trek.

I bought some Samsonite luggage from Sam's Club for traveling on planes... I used it to go to NYC and it got so messed up, but it's black and huge and perfect for trips for car trips I use nice leather weekend bags.

I have a Louis Vuitton Keepall Monogram and I use it as a carry on, and to be honest i dont care if people think its a fake because I know it isnt fake and i think thats all that counts...and im sure if someone was intrested in Louis Vuitton they would know if its real or not. Nevertheless this will happen with anything really, i guess that someone out there will always presume its fake:blush:

Anyway heres some other suitcases...

what if it had a accident

I've seen the Dooney and Bourke heart trunks while at the airport... and they are pretty hideous. Especially when you see grown women toting them around :ninja:

I agree that it isn't wise to use luxury luggage unless it's a carry on where you can keep an eye on it. If I were a theif, I would go straight for the LV cases. I mean, they figure if you have the money for LV luggage, you have the money for many other expensive things within the luggage.

And the bags that Diorling mentioned, the DVF, are a very nice quality, come in nice designs... and I found my carry on at Marshalls for 60 bucks, in black suede. They also had the matching cosmetics/toiletries case (a wonderful size and shape) for 40 dollars. :innocent:

I have a cheapo set of suitcase ... i think the biggest one was only £150. They are plastic so they dontget banged about too much. They have cowprint on them. They are cute and stand out at the airport.
But dont attract to much attention to say " look at me im an expensive designer suitcase, with expensive things inside please steal me !!" this has happned to me :(

..what did you have stolen :(

I had a set of 4 suitcases 2 big ones a medium one and a holdall weekender type bag ... as a well as my vanity case. the medium suitcase got stolen :( luckily though i had the otehrs and id packed things across the suitcases so all my case had some clothes underwear sleepwear etc. so if something did go awol then id still have the others.
There were about 10 tops, 5 pairs of pants, 5 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of pj's and a bikini were stolen :( as well as the case, which was a expensive one of a kind case i got made for me in a soft leather :( with my initials on it.

I actually like the gold Prada one, it seems to have a 'matte' gold finish which i like, but there is no way i am buying a suitcase that screams 'steal me!'

I am always really scared that my suitcase will get stolen at airports, so i try to have a suitcase which is as low-key as possible.

Samsonite is good.

My parents have had Hartmann luggage for over 20 years and I guess this classic style grew on me!

I have a tweed carry-on rolling bag like this:

I was recentely at the air port in DC and all I saw was black rectangle ones like the one aboove and I realized, if I need to get something then it has to not be black..and by reading your posts it has to not show wealth..how about a tumi?

tumi is a good investment... they're durable, very practical. i like to have something more fun as my carryon though...

i just have to second the llbean toiletry case. they may not be the sexiest things around, but they are very very functional and come in lots of sizes. i have two.

regarding luggage, i would not pay crazy $ for a name brand, personally. my primary suitcase is really fabulous quality (i travel a lot and have had it for 5-6 years) and i think i paid $150 for it and a carry-on to match (which my husband uses). it's heavy-duty nylon with great wheels.

as a carry-on, i usually use a big custom-made fabric tote. it's light, and i can throw it in the washing machine when i get home. it's all about function when i travel...

but if i had a private jet and someone to carry my bags, well... :p

I like to carry a seperate toiletry case what used to be known as a dressing case.

i'm also looking for a cute carry-on trolly bag, light and cute (stands out)
any suggestions?

For weekends, I saw a pic once of Gwen Stefani with these real nice looking red bags (they were roundish)...not sure if they were LV's.....ahem sorry I cant find a pic...anyone have any idea what Im talking about? :)

I travel a *lot*. I've always had cheap suitcases -the most expensive would be a Samsonite. so far, knock on wood - nothing stolen. then again I carry on anything expensive. if I didn't travel so much I could have a red crocodile Hermes Birkin bag by now - and that's just from the past two years of vacations - I think I'm glad I chose the vacations!

agreed - LV and the like are for private jets. you really don't want to know what the crew or Homeland Security may do with checked bags.
