yeah it seems like it may have already run its course as a trend, though I may be wrong, but I really love it. I bought a gorgeous tapestry scarf the other day...very indian and very beautiful. I also love brocaded jackets, though I prefer darker, more dramatic designs. there is something about strong, heavy textures that just appeals to me so much...I am really not crazy about prints at all, so tapestry and brocades are a nice alternative.
are those jackets from anthropologie? they do make some really nice clothes using tapestries.:flower:

yeah those are from Anthropologie they're in my catalog.. I love tapestry! I really do!:flower:

I want those.

I'm planning to make a jacket out of some old tapestry curtains..

I think we should make a distinction between tapestry and brocade. I consider brocade to be a type of fabric that has a raised pattern on it that is sewn on. meanwhile tapestry is a woven to make a picture or a pattern. I'm not sure if this distinction makes sense.

edited to add: no matter what anyone says I heart anthropologie.

Highheels..have you tried going to vintage or 2nd hand stores..they have loads of tapestry type of dresses and jackets. :flower:

okay, I'm making a brocade jacket

don't roll your eyes at me!! I really do think it's important because to me, tapestry makes me think of hangings on the wall or people on farms (you know how they always little scenes of farmers or whatever) whereas brocade evokes a much more rich feeling. to me at least.

you are right meg...a tapestry has a picture and usually tells a story...it's like needlepoint... and hangs on a wall...or is a carpet...

brocade is more like upholstery fabric... that would be used for furniture or drapes...

;) :flower:

I'm genuinely sorry, I didn't notice it rolled it's eyes. And also I don't speak english too well..

Hanne i haven't yet only because most of the things that i have found have been in regular retail stores. So after the holidays when i can focus more on myself i certainly will. I can't wait to get some tapestry handbags. Also maarit what a great coat.

Many Brocades are used exclusivly for clothing now though also, but due to their construction you can practically do anything you want with them. It does not matter trend or fashion, its one of those fabrics you usually just have a love for. They draw you in.

Amy Chan makes a great jewelled hobo bag with tapestry...I couldn't find a picture though

Jaquard is a different but related thing too! Somebody explained to me the difference between jaquard and brocade once, but I already forgot.
