I finally got around to reading this - I don't mind the cover shoot, because she's one of those people who can only ever be a parody of themselves, and because they've been around for so long, they become accepted as such.
They haven't even changed her signature hair and make-up much, they've just put her in a few costumes, as if she's starring in a Presidential remake of The Royals.
However, the accompanying interview is bizarrely unflattering for a magazine that usually does its best to present everyone in a rosy glow. Either Liz Hurley was having a very bad day, or the writer (Lynn Barber) really doesn't like her. Why agree to be shot for a cover story but then be unwilling to grin and bear things for a brief interview? There's a strange undercurrent of Liz Hurley sounding like she's one of those women who really doesn't like other women.
Also, after that I was reading an issue of UK Elle from 2016 and there was so much decent writing in it, in comparison to magazines now. With budgets being cut everywhere, surely one way to offer better content would be to increase the amount of articles in magazines. And given there's an inexhaustible supply of fairly decent writers out there, it surely wouldn't break the bank to employ some less well-known names who show great promise.
I suppose I'm forgetting that the articles would have to be about "approved" topics that wouldn't get anyone upset.
