Tatler April 2020 : Elizabeth Hurley by The Morelli Brothers

They did her dirty by passing her of as that woman who doesn’t care. Jackie Kennedy as if. That eye makeup is VERY TELLING as to who the inspiration was.

Justice for my Queen Helena

Their covers always look half-baked... The vintage vibes is great but the cover is freaking ugly.

Jackie, Oh! No.

I live for those “of Greece” royals.
Can’t wait for that.

Glenda Bailey would approve! Maybe I've been praising Tatler too much over the past few months so they've decided to muck it all up just because. That the Morelli Brothers are responsible for this mess is only fitting.

Now if Damian was on this cover with her I may have liked it, tackiness aside. He really struck the jackpot by getting all his mum's genes and not that deadbeat American guy who did a runner on them.

As delightful and refreshing as it is to see Elizabeth Hurley on the cover of Tatler, I find this to be a huge setback for the magazine. The outcome is simply all sorts of awful, but with a cheesy concept and the Morelli brothers behind the lens, I'm not at ALL surprised.

The unveiling of the May cover starring Priyanka Chopra just reminded me that there's a fashion story lens by David Bailey in this issue! Tatler have a preview on their website which can be viewed here (would've uploaded but Imgbox isn't working right now).

I finally got around to reading this - I don't mind the cover shoot, because she's one of those people who can only ever be a parody of themselves, and because they've been around for so long, they become accepted as such.

They haven't even changed her signature hair and make-up much, they've just put her in a few costumes, as if she's starring in a Presidential remake of The Royals.

However, the accompanying interview is bizarrely unflattering for a magazine that usually does its best to present everyone in a rosy glow. Either Liz Hurley was having a very bad day, or the writer (Lynn Barber) really doesn't like her. Why agree to be shot for a cover story but then be unwilling to grin and bear things for a brief interview? There's a strange undercurrent of Liz Hurley sounding like she's one of those women who really doesn't like other women.

Also, after that I was reading an issue of UK Elle from 2016 and there was so much decent writing in it, in comparison to magazines now. With budgets being cut everywhere, surely one way to offer better content would be to increase the amount of articles in magazines. And given there's an inexhaustible supply of fairly decent writers out there, it surely wouldn't break the bank to employ some less well-known names who show great promise.

I suppose I'm forgetting that the articles would have to be about "approved" topics that wouldn't get anyone upset.
