While at heart, Tatler has never lost sight of its core readership, down through the years, it's ranged from being very entertaining to being very boring. Back in the 80s, you had people like Tina Brown as editor, in the 90s, it was the counterpart to Harpers & Queen when it came to fashion, and in the 2000s, the covers were focused on celebrities. But then you also had a long period when the covers would go to someone's rather unremarkable daughter and the contents weren't worth a second glance. I recently threw out/recycled several years' worth of Tatler and never saved a single image.
Now, with Richard Dennen as editor, it's gone back to being a gossipy magazine, and when it comes to the contents, the magazine is one of the last to still provide fashion, glamour and fun, with no sense of shame about it.
I'm glad it's not a thick magazine, because I find myself saving nearly every issue of it, and I've only got so much space in my life.
