Tatler February 2023 : Akshatā Nārāyan Mūrty

really, really, really hate when magazines use stock pictures for their covers -except when it was taken in a studio of course-.

Gosh embarrassing cover : it truly looks like a paparazzi photo used as the cover.

Isn't it too soon to run a profile on her?
Usually when they run covers with candid images it means the story is not authorised by the subject, meaning there's likely something a bit tacky tucked in it. I'll definitely be reading it then!

This will be out on 5th January, so I was happy to see my subscription copy come through the door today... only to find they'd sent me the January issue again.

Conde Nast, why have you sent me two copies of the same thing, a month apart? I can't even blame the confusion on resubscription, because I've got a few months to go yet.

Let me log on to the online portal... a massive website error message, so I can't even find out what's going on.

Conde Nast, starting 2023 as they mean to go on.

Looking through the digital copy, the main issue is 134 pgs, with a 'Address Book' supplement. There are articles about Queen Margrete II's decision to strip some of the young Danish royal of their titles. The written article about the Prime Minister's wife is quite lengthy for a Tatler feature, but as the cover would suggest, no posed pictures.

POWDER DRESSING is a 12 pg winter-themed fashion edit, shot by Daniel Sachon, styled by Sophie Pera. Imagine hyper-glamour (with a touch of the 80s about it) on the slopes and in sleighs.

Then there's a stately home feature, with Discount Newport and his estate in and around Shropshire, followed by the return of Le Bal in Paris (debutantes), and how digital-savvy hunt saboteurs are outwitting the hunt.

As ever, Tatler will give you all the glamour that the other mags won't (or can't) provide.

People interested in representation might note that the Prime Minister of the UK is a Hindu from African-born parents whose families came from the Punjab, and looking slightly further afield, the current Taoiseach is an openly gay (and married) man also with Indian heritage.

I’m really interested in subscribing to Tatler. But I live in Oregon. How much would it be

Price may depend on whether you want a digital or a print subscription. I would like to think a digital subscription would be a reasonable price, but when it comes to print, the postage charges UK->US might be quite high.

I subscribe through Conde Nast UK - which is not the same as the Conde Nast Worldwide store. I was able to pay for all my print subscriptions with credit card online, while the Worldwide store is still only accepting PayPal (?) and the Worldwide store also seems more focused on sales of single issues, rather than subscriptions.

Have you ever bought a print issue of Tatler? It tends to be glossy but quite a thin magazine - it always has been, no matter the decade. You're never going to get a thick issue, like you do with UK Vogue. I wouldn't pay to subscribe until you know what you're getting for your money. Also a digital subscription via an American source might scratch the itch at very little cost.
