Tatler June 2020 : Queen Elizabeth II

Definitely a must-have! Anything that involves Her Majesty is a must-have. Stunning!

Though it reminds me of UK Vogue with Kate (The Gold Issue)

My family (sans Harry and Meghan)

^Helmutnotdead, asking why Tatler is obsessed with royalty is like asking why Vogue is obsessed with fashion. It's their bread and butter. Aspiration. And the highest form of aspiration for their readers is being part of the British royal family, something no amount of money can buy you. But....they can try emulating and studying that lifestyle and that's basically what Tatler and T&C are there for. American Town & Country had an article about people who are richer than the royals, loads of them, but they are not nearly as polarising.

The cover is such a genius response to a limited budget, staying true to your audience, and aligning your cover to the current state of affairs in an authentic way. I'm never a fan of silhouettes you can only do so much with it. But the subject and the overall subscription feel is a winner for me.

Dennen certainly has a lot of cards up his sleeves!

And people's interest in long-serving female monarchs of the UK and the different worlds that have surrounded them at each period in history is an enduring one, you only have to look at Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria to see that there's always an interest in the stories about them that have been established over time.

Why people is obsessed with royalty on 2020 is seriously something I don’t get.
They represents a sense of stability in a ever changing world. I’m always impressed by how French people loves Royals despite not being royalists. The Windsor and The Grimaldi have always interested French people strangely.

My point is why people (not Tatler in particular. Also I don’t even know what the magazine is about) are so interested in Royalty. In my eyes, they’re just a bunch of hideously rich people doing absolutely nothing (and we’re not gonna talk how they got all that money). So I find extremely pointless to admire them.

Royalty is certainly a life of privilege, but it's not exactly a life of doing nothing, and there are a lot of constraints on what you can do with that life.

Imagine a world where you have to attend endless formal functions day after day and you can't step out of line in public, not even with your facial expressions.

The people who are hideously rich and doing absolutely nothing in this world are typically the children of successful people, who have the freedom to do anything they want in life, and yet still choose "nothing" as their contribution.

There are plenty of those people filling up the pages of fashion magazines.

I think it’s just important to emphasise that that is how you perceive them and your opinion, though I still don’t think there’s occasion to be quite so rude in your comments about not being a fan of someone. Many people are interested in the Royal family.

I’m British and I’m interested in the monarchy. There’s aspects of the institution that are far from ideal but they are part of our DNA and deliver a lot to the country.

Being the figure head of state, and the representative of your country isn't exactly a job that involves doing nothing. Her powers may be few now, but she still has plenty of responsibilities. Even in a place like Japan where the emperor is entirely ceremonial, his duties are still important to that their emperor recently had to abdicate because of health problems. In this particular instance many of the royal family serve and have served in the armed forces.

An amazing ed; regardless the title, nothing really scandalous here - on contrary, everything is so British and classy!

A little bit of storytelling goes a long way.

I don't expect every fashion editorial to have a storyline, but it seems increasingly rare to see one that does.

The Queen got the cover, rightly so because she has always been associated with steadiness in an ever-changing world, something we are desperately in need of right now. But that scandal fashion editorial is so obviously referencing Princess Diana. Jena may have been styled to look like Duchess Kate to throw off the blissfully unaware reader, but the shot of her emerging out of the car with the pastel Fendi was a Diana staple pap image, the newspaper cover (which looks identical to a cover the Mirror ran of Princess Diana and Dodi), the elevator shots which are modeled after the CCTV footage of Diana and Dodi's final hours before that tragic accident, and the closing double-page shot, which alludes to that infamous interview. Indeed, great storytelling, but with a dose of shade. Because it's Tatler. LOL.
