There are alot of good songs, of course, that aren't mainstream. Sadly, the American public seems to be stuck in the hip hop thing.

Some more good ones (in my opinion) are "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "Miss Murder" by A.F.I. and "Killing Loneliness" by H.I.M [<-- my second longest running myspace song!]

^ Same here, I don't really any of those songs. However these are some songs that came out fairly recently that I cant stop listening to...
"Hands Open" - Snow Patrol (the whole new album)
"Phenomona" - Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs
"Hands" - The Raconteurs

and tons older stuff especially The Dandy Warhols, Spoon and Belle and Sebastian which just always scream summertime to me

Summer songs don't necessarily have to be either R&B or Hip-hop.

You guys are all too hip for me- in my town, Bloc Party is considered way indie. And no one has even heard of the Kaiser Chiefs, and you'd even be hard pressed to find a Strokes fan

Corinne Bailey Rae, Babyshambles, Be Your Own Pet are great for this summer (hmm not all just came out with new songs or anything, but what I've been listening to a lot lately)
