The Best of New York Fashion Week: FWD's Top 5 Lists

Though not necessarily a breakthrough trend season, nor one that will cause endless store waitlists, New York's spring 2004 fashion week did offer some strong looks and several memorable presentations. Here is FWD's Top 5 list for the best in everything from hobo bags to beach hair.

Best Collections:
Carolina Herrera
DKNY
Marc Jacobs
Roland Mouret
Imitation of Christ

Best Looks:
Donna Karan's tailored white trenchcoat
Matthew Williamson's peacock print dress
Roland Mouret's sheer, striped tank tops
Zac Posen's silver charmeuse cowl-neck dress
Carolina Herrera's long black Mermaid skirt and racer back tank

Best Accessories:
Michael Kors' cabana-striped messenger bags
Marc Jacobs' satin lace-up booties
Carolina Herrera's ebony and ivory stacked bangle bracelets
Roland Mouret's Barramundi heels by Terry Biviano
Luella Bartley's green alligator hobo

Carolina Herrera's loose, pulled-back finger waves, courtesy of Orlando Pita.
Michael Kors' teased ponytails, courtesy of Orlando Pita.
Diesel's unbridled long, braided tresses courtesy of Ashley Javier for L'Oreal.
DKNY's wavy beach hair courtesy of Jimmy Paul for Bumble & Bumble.

Best Makeup:
Carolina Herrera's lavender eyes, rosy-cheeks, and pink lips.
Imitation of Christ's glamorous Vamp lips, courtesy of Shu Uemura's Lisa Okesson.
Narciso Rodriguez's golden eyes and violet lips.
Donna Karan's pink glossy lips and shiny, bronzed skin courtesy of Pat McGrath.
Ralph Lauren's clean faces and pinched cheeks courtesy of Tom Pecheux.

Best Show Productions:
Rachel Comey - For her latest act, the quintessential downtown designer moved her show uptown, elegantly staging it in an outside bar/promenade of The Flatotel. Aside from beautiful lighting and a crisp presentation, Comey also had the best soundtrack of the season: a moody lineup that included Suicide's "Cheree" and Q Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses."

Jeremy Scott - A sex-addicted showman through and through, Scott put on one of the more memorable shows in fashion weeks past. Staged at Deitch Projects in SoHo, his sweaty hot "Sexploitation" presentation featured -- amongst other things -- Lisa Marie dressed as a caveman, stroking a bone, and top model Jessica Miller pole dancing.

Miguel Adrover - To the sounds of crickets chirping and a dusk-lit landscape background, Adrover took his audience on a stunning 15-minute globe-trot up the Andes Mountains, down the Mississippi River, through a Cape Cod backyard, and across an African plain.

Betsey Johnson - Staged to look like a Cabaret, Johnson installed round tables and chairs for front row editors, and liquored them up nicely with Tattinger champagne.

VPL - Energy-fueled and accident-prone, the VPL (Visible Panty Line) show featured three kids turning skateboard tricks on half-ramps to loud electro. Oh, and also semi-nude models.
