The "Classic Black Bag"

The cerf is a bit conservative, but my style is pretty classic so it works. It really isn't officey, or business-like, just very classic. I usually wear something a bit offbeat, so this bag balances it out. I actually have a birkin as well and I like the cerf better. I might be the only person to say that, but I have a bunch of chanel bags and I think sticking to one handbag designer adds a signature element to ones style. My friends all know me as their friend with all the chanel bags. Having a birkin is not at all necessary as long a you have a classic bag that suits you. I really only use mine when I travel.

The 35 in togo leather with gold hardare. For some reason it looks huge on me. I'm very small though. I can't really pull it off.

Here is one that is classic and not trendy, but still very current.

Which color? I wanted a birkin but think 35cm may be too big for me too..

The only thing I don't like about the Epi Alma is that it looks like you can't wear it under your arm - you must always hold it. It is also very hard isn't it? (which gives me a "lunch box" vibe...) What's the material it's made from?

Personally, I think I like bags with structure (somewhat boxy rather than slouchy), but with a reasonably supple matte leather...so it does kind of "give" a little and is comfy when you wear it under your arm...oh yes and it has those handles which tuck nicely under your arm, or in the crook of your arm, or you can hold it.

This isn't a very popular style these days though, is it? :)

You can get a shoulder strap for the Alma if you don't want to carry it. It isn't "hard": the material is LV's epi leather, which is flexible, lightweight, strong and very scratch-resistant.

For a handsfree black bag:

Oh, cool. I'm glad it's not hard. I was looking at a fake LV bag at the local consignment shop, (looks like that Alma but it's really long & narrow) and it was totally hard. I don't know what it was made out of.

i wholeheartedly agree w/ tinuvielberen - LV epi is just amazing material - lightweight, not LV obvious, scratch resistent, water resistent, etc. great stuff!

I'm wondering if a black Fendi Spy bag can function as a "classic black bag." Maybe it's too fashiony? The Lanvin Kansas is much more classic, but I'm afraid it's completely sold out at this point. I much prefer the slouchy-ness of the Kansas over the Chanel cerf.

^ I think the fendi spy bag in black can work as a classic day bag, but I think the kansas/cerf are perfect choices too because I love the shape on them
