 I've never seen that one. is it good?

I don't know. there is no subtitled version of it.
but doesn't it sound interesting?
maybe anyone who was not interested in those guests might find it boring.

i find it interesting that these guys all know each other and hang out together...
can you imagine what it might be like to be in a room with all of them at a party or something...

imo...it would be fascinating but also somewhat creepy...these guys are all slightly insane...no?... but i mean that in a good way... ^_^

i've met and worked with willem dafoe and i can testify to the fact that he's got that crazy look in his eye...it's a spark of genius meets insanity...it's compelling but definitely spooky.... :ninja:

:innocent:

does anyone kow anything about thelonious monk?...
i've always thought i should know more about his music but don't know where to begin...any tips?...

thx... :flower:

it would be great to meet Willem Dafoe.
Prada's advertising featuring him was good, the character in Wild at Heart is unforgettable.

faust, Tom Waits seems to have remained sulky throughout, he hates doing fishing.

maybe "Straight No Chaser"
I like "genius meets insanity" (such as Carol Christian Poell). in a sense, genius might be someone who has good access to some kind of insanity.

 Tom Waits is a born actor, he is always full of BS (in a funny way though). You never know what's truth what's fairy tail coming out of his mouth. Have you seen "Coffee and Cigarettes"? There is a funny scene with him and Iggy Pop.

Softie, I feel ashamed saying this, but Theloneous Monk was my favorite jazz musician (I discovered him in a jazz class I took in college), but I haven't listened to him extensively

I think that crazy look in Willem Dafoe's is partly due to sleep exhaustion. I know for a fact that he has sleep issues :innocent:

thx runnner..i will try 'straight no chaser'...
i like your definition of genius...i think it's true...the edge of insanity is a remarkable place...
many of the most intetesting people i have met have been slightly mad...

interesting bit of info about sleep deprivation paprika...i used to have severe insomnia and i did actually think i was losing my mind...and then someone suggested i get more sleep...and voila!
cured!...sleep deprivation can definitely look and feel like insanity at times...
i guess it can be good for creativity to induce insomnia...a sort of induced temporary insanity... :P :innocent:

Speaking as someone with a father who's had no more than two hours sleep, per night, for the last 25 years... I very much agree. :ninja: :P

This exemplary documentary about seminal jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk reaps the benefits of multiple blessings, including the skilled editorial hand of director Charlotte Zwerin and the patronage of executive producer (and erstwhile jazz pianist) Clint Eastwood. Most vital is the use of extensive 1968 footage, shot by Michael and Christian Blackwood, documenting the sometimes moody, sometimes puckish Monk in the studio, on tour, and off stage, which on its own would make this essential jazz viewing.
In post-World War II America, few cultural upheavals matched bebop for sheer exhilaration. Spawned by jazz musicians whose paydays typically came with larger swing ensembles, bop was as much bastard as stepchild, refining the technical ambitions of its parent while breaking free of swing's formalism to play fast and loose with harmony, melody, and tempo. That mercurial spirit made heroes of high-flying, technically flamboyant players like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell. Monk, by contrast, was as distinctive for his silences, crafting often skeletal melodies distinguished by unexpected, skewed harmonies. At one point dubbed the "high priest of bebop," he was more Zen archer, threading notes, warping chord structure, or stabbing "wrong" keys with a seeming looseness that in hindsight sounds as precise as haiku.

Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser provides an intelligent portrait of this often reclusive, sometimes difficult artist, including telling glimpses of his volatility. A stormy studio session with Teo Macero, then Columbia Records' preeminent jazz producer, speaks volumes about Monk's very private approach to his muse. Perceptive interviews and glimpses of Monk's sunnier moments provide added depth, yet the real triumph is the generous catalog of classic Monk songs captured on camera. --Sam Sutherland

I marked the ones I'm killing to see.. the second day is pretty good but if I had to choose like I did this year, I'd choose the first day one more time.

...
 I loved this comment, someone did it at other forum:

Excellent first day in particular. And they've even been kind enough to provide an intermission in the shape of Franz Ferdinand for anyone who needs to get to the toilet / purchase food & drink.

it's a pretty harmless comment  :P

I might as well be in their crowd, and not because of their music but because of my big hopes of getting some Chanel or Dior jacket thrown on my head.
