The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

Hi greydove
..to camouflage some post-acne discoloration
Laura Mercier's secret camoflage (make sure your skin has been sufficiently moisturized and that the product has been heated up before applying it..)

Another thing you might want to look into is Ben Nye Cover FX.. I haven't tried it but Gruveechik speaks highly of it, and even shows the difference it made on her under eye area.. as you can see here: http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f47/dark-shadows-under-eyes-38291.html?highlight=concealer#post1351362 (post # 2, 3 and 10) :flower:

Has anyone experienced breakouts with MAC Studio Fix?

i use it every day and wear it late into the night and dont feel it makes my skin any worse. I like the fact that its powder and not liquid as i used to feel my liquid foundation aggrevated my skin and led to spots....

have you had any problems?

Hey, I just wanted to ask if anyone could give me some tips on a good brand of foundation to use.

I don't have awful skin all the time, but once in awhile I get bad breakouts. It's so hard to find a foundation that's good for me because I have VERY light skin (red hair and freckles and everything, too) and whenever I try to one, nothing ever blends right in the neck area, at the end of my face - I need something really light. My face is between normal/oily.

Thanks in advance.

If you're looking for a liquid I would recommend Paula Dorf Oil Free Moisturizing Foundation: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P5841&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=4230

For "powder" I would recommend Bare Escentuals: http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f47/bare-minerals-worth-buying-8617.html

I use them both - depending on my mood - and love them equally. I also have very fair skin and the colors are perfect for me :flower:

I would also recommend setting your foundation (if you go with a liquid) with Prada's Hydrating powder: http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f47/prada-beauty-33806.html?

I have REAL bad dark circles under my eyes, i try to cover them with foundation and concealer on top but the dark circles still show up from underneath the makeup  Is it because i'm not using enough concealer or is it because of the way im applying it??

what are the rules of the types of foundation?
like if you should wear liquid, powder, or cream foundation when you have dry skin, oily skin, etc?

I've had similar problems. This is my recommendation: pat some primer under your eyes, I'd suggest: Yves St Laurent's Lisse Expert (eye and lip anti-wrinkle concentrate cream) Let that dry for a bit....then dot small amounts of under eye concealer : Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat... and tap into skin. It's amazing cos you can build it up and it won't look caked. If you use a regular heavy concealer on your skin under the eyes, it won't look right; the skin is too sensitive and light too handle it.

Then brush with a normal translucent powder..

One of my friends uses a small amount of dermablend instead of the Touche Eclat....it's a strong concealer, but the key is to use a small amount which you should pat and tap on, not rub in.

I know the Yves St laurent stuff is pricey, but IMO there's nothing wrong with investing in expensive things for your face or hair. We wear our face and hair everyday so it makes sense to spend extra!!!

Hope that helps :flower:

P.S dark circles geenrally are tough to get rid of but as cliched as it sounds, drink lots of water and get enough sleep. With time they should eventually fade. Also, giving them a cucumber mask treat every week doesn't hurt.

Covergirl or Maybelline?

Hey, can u help me decide? Im 22 but i really want to try Covergirl Advanced radiance (but cant decide between the sheer/TM formula and the regular formula). I also really want to use Maybelline Pure makeup. My skin is pretty good and doesnt need all that much coverage, but i love the idea of the Olay ingredients in the Covergirl Advanced Radiance!
What do you think?

^ Oh my gosh. *hisses at the mention of Maybelline PURE makeup*

I tried the Pure liquid makeup and it made me break out. A lot. It's such a shame, though, because it made my skin look SO good. It had a nice consistency, and the coverage is nice when I applied it dabbed it onto my skin with a sponge. Even the color match was perfect... I guess if you're not breakout prone like I am, it could work for you.

I would go with Maybeline pure liquid as well, as the CoverGirl is more for mature skin. Pure does make peopple's skin look naturally great. :D :D

ok i need help and this seems a good place to ask
i am a ****** at putting make up on like it looks all good and then 20 minutes later it is on my chin? im 21 and have pretty good skin but i feel my skin tone is alittle uneven so i would like to even it up i havetried green powders cause it is kinda red in places but i ended up looking like a ghost! not quite what i had in mind

i never wear make up due to being so bad at itand due to it always slipping- i have just started using a l'ocatine skin care reigme so i think my skin is kinda ready for make up now. i have quite a pale dewy(well i think kinda oily) face and so am thinking i need something quite matt- i bought the bennefit tinted mousteriser and that is too dark and no good-

so im looking for suggestions as to wether a primer is as really as neccesary as assistants tell you and what is like a good range to go for. i unfortunatly live in nz so we dont have much choice and what we do such as bobbie brown and mac is very expensive. i have been thinking about getting some napolean stuff though does anyone know if thats good- i just wanna be able to wear make up and not look like im 5 playing dress up (eg. with it all over my face) any hints and help very much appreciated!!

Hi realfull :flower:
Everybody is different.. some inadvertently touch their face all day long others don't.. and the there is the skin texture issue oily skin, dry skin..

If I do a hasty application my foundation doesn't last as long or look as nice as when I take my time..

Before applying primer I like to exfoliate, I believe Paula's Choice is a label available down under.. and it carries good exfoliators..

As for primers, I do think they help, but they aren't essential.

How you apply your foundation is on the other hand important..
If you use your hands, remember to pad instead of rub

With regards to the whole green making you white issue..you could blend the tiniest amount of green concealer from MAC with a bit of your foundation for those areas that are red.. experiment with blending..

Set your foundation with powder.. if you dislike a matte look.. but want something rather natural.. you should try MACs blot powder.
