Apparently it was designed by the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago fo its "Fast Forward: Inventing the Future" exhibit.

Neat, but the actual execution leaves a lot to be desired.

this is brilliant, very interesting idea that can be applied to other things. and i love the soundtrack.
Chicago is not considered very fashion-forward, but i know some amazing designers & artists that live here, and this makes me so proud of my hometown

    EL lighting

The use of EL lighting in garments is not new. Burning Man participants/artist have been using this fro some time now. I have made garments and made piping in clear plastic - threaded the wire through it to light up bags.

Google EL wire you can buy your own and light up your own outfits. LadyGAGA
has brought the theatrics of many performance artist to mainstreams eyes. Good on her, you can see many GAGA type outfits at Burning Man. Maybe she went there and spied a few years back.

So...how much is the Christmas tree?

Srsly, it's tacky beyond words. Don't get all the "it's beautiful!" comments.

I saw this video in PerezHilton and I was thinking the same thing... it would have been nicer if an actual person wore it.

that's what i was thinking too. not very original considering this is supposed to be a platform for innovative idea. can't be that innovative when it's already been done before.

I concur, this is neither an original concept nor a well executed one...what's the big deal?

Chayalan did it much more beautifully and with artistry, this just feels amateurish (its like a Steve Madden version of Prada seriously)

I Agree, I know it was made by the museum but still I wish it didn't look so cheap.

it is utter trash...... i mean if some branches come with it, it will look complete

I'm astonished when TFSers are praising over how pretty it is (i hope you guys are just praising the light)
its just one sheet of light bulbs wrappping over the mannequin
i won't even display this rubbish for christmas

its to wear in the shopping centre for promoting christmas sale.......

No wonder it looks like a Christmas tree. I don't like it either. The dress itself is not a good look.
