what are the pros and cons of waxing compared to using an epilator?? (in regards to pian, cost, maintanance etc)
:flower::flower:

i've done waxing. it hurts pretty bad. not like excrutiating but it's kind of like *rip* "whimper *riip* "GOd damn!" etc.

i suppose epilators r the same as tweezing..but w/ tweezing..i find it hurts more.. the process is slow...but tweezing doesn't necessarily pull the hair by the root i find.\\

pros and cons to waxing vs epilators.. well.. i havn't tried waxing down there..but i guess wax wins over epilators in that.. it takes out more hair in one shot..but then again..thats painful. I only use epilators on my bikini line.. too scared to use it all the way down there.. Anyhow.. epilators i find are cheaper than waxing.. because u have to keep on buying wax.

thats true...but then again, with waxing, you eventually stop because you damage the root of the hair to the point that it refuses to grow back....so thats what keeps me bearing the pain....knowing one day ill be free of it and hair!

I think that's just a myth.

^i find the roll-on messy and inefficient...
if i wax, i buy the nair cold wax with the wax already on the strips...

I've used the Nair cold wax strips just for the bikini area (no heavy duty brazilian)..I'd never waxed before when I did it. The instructions were clear, and it was a tad painful but nothing dreadfull, and I was able to get everything to look how I wanted it (all for like 6 bucks) -no bruising either. Also Nair itself, while smelling like some sort of dead animal, is AMAZING. I use it all the time on my legs, I can go like 2 weeks (sometimes longer) before needing to re-do it.

:o No! How sad! How long does it usually last for you guys when you get waxed? I'm kinda getting skeptical because recently (the past year) I will have the stubbliness of baby hairs in less than a week. I wonder if the hairs are breaking when she rips them out and not really coming out by the root. I remember when I used to get waxed at another place (which is hundreds of miles away which is why I don't go there anymore) I would be baby-smooth for almost two complete weeks before it started to creep back in. I have heard that if the hairs are too long when you wax they break off before being completely pulled out. My wax lady says that's a myth. Who is right? Hmmmm... maybe I should write in to an advice column of a magazine....:p

Pink Satin, I think the "myth" is partially true. My friend gets her arm waxed, and I was looking at her arm today, and WOW, the hair that grew back is A LOT thinner. Also, less hair seemed to grow back (her hair now is really sparse). Trust me, I am not just imaginging this. I sit next to her everyday and I've seen her arm plenty of times. So my advice is, keep waxing. I'm probably going to do it for my underarm as well. It may never get to the point of no hair growing back, but the hair will be thinner and less.

Okay for those of you with bumps, I found something that works-it's the True Blue Spa by Bath and Body Works "Over The Bump". It is a roll-on and I've used it and it works well. You have to wait at least 12 hours after shaving in order to use it and it has the kinda alcohol-y smell, but it really does work. You can also use it to help prevent new ones coming in, and ever since I started using it I get significantly less ingrowns.

Bring on swimsuit season!

I hate unwanted hair with a passion..

I mainly shave, I use to get a rash but because I do it so often I don't anymore. I prefer to wax but I hate the inbetween stages. You get use to the pain though...

I say bring back Vintage Muff ;)

I don't know... I always wax my legs and I use to be a real hairy mary but I have noticed I get fewer hairs these days... I don't think it will kill the hair completely but definately reduce them B)

For a first timer to waxing down there, do you guys think I can do it myself or should i go out and get it done?

I'd really suggest getting it done professionally. Since you've never done it before, you want to trust a professional rather than rely on yourself!

After about a year, I am ready to go back for a bikini wax. Altho I swore I would never do it again, it is the smoothest way to remove hair, and for a brunette like me with light skin- Britney Murphy, its the best possible option.
But only this time, I will come prepared. I am bringing my fiance and some sedative drugs.
I will let you know how it goes....

For the ladies that use an epilator, which brand to you use.

I'm a first timer too, and recently I purchased "Veet Bikini Cream Kit"

It works pretty good, I've never tried anything else for my bikini area so I cannot compare, all I can say is it does its job. HTHs

You've tempted me to try nair on my legs since i'm getting tired of shaving. I tried one of of those wax strips at home things on my legs before and it didn't work very well at all though.

I find the person who does it makes all the difference. The day spa in my area back home in London was THE best. They had soft lighting and the woman chatted to me the whole time about school, boyfriend, etc. to keep me distracted and it was as good as a waxing experience can get.

Meanwhile here in Canada I went to a different place that my mum recommended who do sugaring and my goodness it was SO painful. Harsh bright lights (they do a lot of laser and cosmetic procedures there) and i was getting sugaring. The girl made little to no attempt to chat to me and it was SO painful. Not even the ripping out bit was as painful as her spreading the stuff on. Never getting sugared again. Waxing was a dream compared.

My tips would be have a shower an hour before if at possible. It opens the hair follicles up more and makes the hair easier to come out so it's less painful and you get a better job. Take two aspirin to reduce redness swelling. And maybe have a little drink if you've got the time

I am amazed at how scared people are of waxing. I've been having brasilian waxing down there since I was 18!!! Of course, I went to places where I could have it done professionally and I got used to the feeling of my bare skin, so now I can't stand a single hair.

After so much waxing over the years, the amount of hair "down there" has reduced considerably and not only that, but the hairs are also weaker.
I even learnt to do it myself at home, so I could do it every 3 weeks instead of 4.

Now that I can afford it, I am having a laser removal and I am so happy I did it!
