you should give shu uemura's mascara basic a try. it's what i use, and it provides a very natural effect without clumps or flaking... it doesn't run (definitely wears like steel if you're using the waterproof version), and holds a curl all day. it is my #1!

this is my most favourite mascara ever

but i looove YSL Faux Cils for thick lush lashes

What do you mean by smudge free though? I normally don't have that problem but I usually avoid rubbing my eyes when I have eye makeup on. But even then... as long as the mascara is dry there are no smudges. And when it starts to clump that's normally a sign that I either have the wipe the wand clean or buy a new tube. Sometimes if I cry or it's raining out there are smudges... or if I take a nap during the day my makeup will get messed up on one side of my face since I tend to sleep on my side. If Lancome mascara actually stays on through all of that then I might try it out.

I know people with oily skin (or oily eye area) tend to have problem with mascara smudging.
I have dry skin, don't know why but I do find lots of mascaras smudging on me and giving this black ring at the bottom, more or less.
Lancome Definicils stays on when I rub my eyes, and sometimes when I stay over at my friend's without removing makeup, the mascara is still all good in the morning, does not smudge at all, just flakes a little bit.

i use and reccomment double extend lash mascara from loreal. its fantastic and really does make your lashes heaps longer!!!

its reasonably priced at around $20 dollars i think, but the only prob about it is that it takes longer to put on than the standard mascara cos of the two layers.

but a definite 'give it a try' beauty item, especially for night outs.

for an EXTREMELY waterproof mascara, try maybelliene FULL AND SOFT waterproof mascara. i always wear it to the beach cos i know that i can rely on it and when i come out of the water i won't have those black panda eyes.

i used to buy the much more expensive mascaras such as Lancome and Chanel and i have tried Clinique, but the best results are from the much more reasonably priced product such as maybelliene and loreal.

its up to you if you want to pay for the name, or the product???

oh I never pay for the name --- why would someone want to pay for the letters LANCOME DIFINICILS if the mascara itself is crap?
I only pay for what I'm really getting in the tube, meaning what works the best for me.
it's a fact that products work differently on different people.
people who don't use cheaper products are actually paying for the names of higher end ones? I really do not think so

For full, long and pretty lashes - without raccoon eyes - without clumps - and at a great price try: Cover Girl Fantastic Lash.

Surprise surprise! i'm totally not a CG fan - but i loooove this mascara! i usually like Definicils - but love this CG FL for the fuller effect and of course, the price.

It's a drier product than most, but just pump the wand quickly 30x and you'll get wetter product on the brush.

2 coats is all you'll need for lovely lovely lashes - that's if you like a more false lashes effect.

If you're looking for just a natural look - then one sweep of mascara should be good enough for you.

Really - no raccoon eyes! It's easy to remove - and doesn't leave my lashes brittle at the end of the day.

Those are the raves.
Now for the not-so-good side.

1) product itself dries out within 2 months - starts losing its effect after 4-5wks.. but
you can push it to or past 2 months.

2) the tubes are hit and miss - 1st tube: i LOVED and thought i found my HG mascara - 2nd tube: not as fabulous - still effective, still no raccoon eyes - but not as fantastic - 3rd tube: fabulously fantastic - and it passed the test of a 34hr travel horror story - where i couldn't wash/reapply my makeup - had to try to sleep overnight in airport - and i cried a bit too - mascara was still there - no raccoon eyes - no brittle lashes.

3) although no raccoon eyes - i think it's not as totally smudge free as Definicils, but comes a very very close 2nd. There was one strange day when i got something in my eye and purposely squished my lids together to wash it out - then little flakes of mascara fell into my eye. But that happened once out of a 3 tube experience.

4) it's a drier formula than most - i've found i must must must pump the brush in the tube 30x quickly each time i apply mascara.

5) don't go for the 3rd coat - it won't work and you won't need it anyways.

6) don't wait too long to use your lash comb - it may flake if you use it after it's dried out. i've found i don't even need to use it.

a while ago, I've read in another mascara topic that a member swears by CG Fantastic Lash so I decided to give it a try, even though I was already convinced that no drugstore mascara works for me.

the first time using it, I was just testing it at home and applied 1 or 2 coats. I was impressed at that time since I found it totally smudge-free. also fuller lashes at such a low price.
However, after wearing it for the second time, I changed my mind completely. yes, it's still smudge-free, but after 2-3 coats it made my lashes big (in a bad way) and spidery. terrible at defining, shaping and separating. pretty much a mess so I guess it only works alright when applied thinly--but when applied thinly, it simply doesn't give me the look I want (I'm not after super dramatic lashes btw). CG Fantastic Lash comes nowhere close to Lancome Definicls IMO.

I use Lancome Flextencils, but I'm going to look into Hypnose soon, and possibly the waterproof version, as I want it to hold the curl of my lashes longer.

I used to only wear Maybelline Full 'n Soft before I got Flextencils, and I have to highly recommend that as well. I never wore the waterproof version of that one, and I never got raccoon eyes, even when I went swimming. My only gripe was that it didn't keep my lashes curled for long enough, but it's an amazing mascara.

I don't trust CG mascaras. I've had bad experiences with every one I tried though I used the wear the one in the purple tube for a while in high school.

I also used to use full and soft but in the waterproof version. I like that one and might start using it again. It was the easiest waterproof mascara to wash off though I might try the regular one. I was always afraid that it would give me racoon eyse. I also had the same problem with droopy eyelashes at the end of the day... I never curl my lashes but I like a mascara that's a bit stiffer so I get more definition.

I use Lancome Defincils Waterproof... it stays on all through swim practice I feel bad for my teammates with the racoon eyes B)

I'm thinking of trying hypnose... or if I could get my hands on some Dior Show..


I still remember walking to the lancome counter and being like i want lancome definicilcilfisjflakjslkjdkls ... and the lady just points and is like "uh...you mean this?"

edited to say I didn't even know what mascara was supposed to be like before this...

I've used cover girl, jane, almay, avon, mary kay, clinique, maybelline and I cant say I like any of them... Especially Almay it runs so bad

Its not a "high-make" but Im satisfied with it at the moment Its 'Margaret Astor'
Dont know where they do it, i guess in Germany... It has a spesial seperating plastic brush and its extra voluming.

I hope I wont have allergy again.
