The New Gothic / Neogoth

fake blacks fw 06.07

I've seen a few stylish women sporting this look - generally in soft, fluid shapes: really muted, inky shades of dark blues, grays, olives together with different shades of black... so that the whole effect is a rather gothic take on the colors in a not-brand-new tattoo, or a dark comic book. Not necessarily prints - more likely solids and layering.

Looking for pictures along these lines and wondering if you've seen it as a trend too? (This year, or if not, when?!)

Muted tones...?

If that's what you are referring to, theyre the only colours I can wear! Anything too bold plays havoc with my complexion!

watch out for fake blacks already mentioned in our fw07.08 forecast trends thread..
it's destined to be huge.. so start investing the new style as early as possible ;)

just overall, a very dark palette...
I've noticed this in my recent purchases, so I'm thinking a lot sooner than fall 07... it definitely pops up in streetstyle

I am very intrigued by the sound of this and I love the term "fake black."
I did some poking around and I found this:

does anyone have any pictures...? :flower:
i don't quite get this

Like others have said it's dark. Think very dark colours like red, green, blue, so dark that they're almost black.

Yeah...its altogether a rather sexy look, but very subtle. Gothic, but feminine. For me, it's about suggestiveness...

And to whomever said about mixing neutrals, this is pretty much my daily wear, but the addition of navy or maroon can be quite powerful!

excuse me but... it's not a gothic style at all
it's just colours and they are very 'fresh'

Thanks for all the explanations :flower:

Sounds a little strange for spring/summer though...
or maybe i'm too used to bright cheery palettes over here :p

it just sound like you're talking about neogoth cbcb...
so maybe if you want pics-- check that thread...?

otherwise i have no idea what you mean...:ermm:...

Excuse me but...if you read the original post for this thread it actually contains the words, 'the whole effect is a rather gothic take on the colors in a not-brand-new tattoo.' And the pictures that have been included are not ones which I would describe as 'colours' or 'fresh' at all, since black is an absense of colour... :innocent:

Maybe Tim Burton's aesthetic works in this context? Sort of a combination of Dickensian darkness and fairytale weirdness.

I've seen lots of magazines talking about this look again, and how prominent it was on the runway. Except it's now called 'nu goth'
I really like this look, a smarter take on the gothic look.

I really like the gauntlet style gloves juxtaposed against silk.
