unless you have intimate relationships with someone...
how can anyone possibly know who is nice and who isn't...

but nice isn't exactly the same...
you can tell if someone is annoying even if you don't know them...
if they have a public persona...

but you can't tell if they are nice or mean or things like that...
those things require intimate contact really...

Of course, you may not know from personal experience...but given word of mouth and what you read you may form an impression.

I think it's become a bit of a cult of being rude...and pushing limits...like impetuous children.
