The Official Harry Potter Thread

Emma Watson red dress is nice but it's surpose to be purple just like her Yule Ball dress was blue but yet it was pink in the film. The fashion is just as important and should stay canon. Emma's hair is also a big thumbs down.

Hermione's hair seemed to have magically tamed itself after the first movie yeah? Even in COS it wasn't very Hermione-like as it had been in the first one. Being a massive fan of the books, it is a bit disappointing that little things (or what I think are little things) are still not really done well when they could be, and yes! it's not that difficult to get colours right is it? Because you have people like me who find it annoying that colours were changed when they were specifically mentioned in the books; I've accepted that there is no way movies can follow the book word for word, since it is, an adaption, but please!! right colours please!!

I'm so excited about Ginny in the next film. She's always been my favorite character and I can't wait to see all the Harry/Ginny action (even though it seems they've changed everything about it )

^ lol, I think you're the first person that I've ever met to call Ginny a favorite! I think her character is a little bit annoying sometimes, both in the books & the films :(

Thanks again, Label Basher for the videos!! I get so excited when theres new HP stuff. July can't come soon enough!!!

Matt Lewis to Film Scenes for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in October - From The Leaky Cauldron.

TLC reader and PotterCast listener Kevin emailed to say that while there, Matt spoke about his role as Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, noting that he will be enjoying the summer off, but will be back to film scenes again in October for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Matt also said he cant speak to where the films split, but has read the script for Deathly Hallows Part One and loved it and said something along the lines of "if there even is a part for Neville's Gran in the movies he would want Dame Judi Dench to play her - although his first choice, if she wasn't already in the movies, would be Maggie Smith." He also spoke briefly about Neville's look in Deathly Hallows as being a "a leaner, meaner, rock and roll Neville," and is very much looking forward to shooting the dramatic Nagini and the sword scene. Finally Matt Lewis enjoyed the fact that Neville ended up as a Herbology Professor as he thiks Neville belongs in a school, and reflected that his "biggest wish about the last book was that Neville had killed Bellatrix but also admits that that's not really Neville's style."

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was also a topic, as Matt Lewis said the fans will love the movie. He also pointed out that "although Half Blood Prince has a horrible ending it is quite a funny movie, thanks mostly to Rupert Grint's Qudditch and love-struck scenes."

One fun note: Matt Lewis treated a lucky fan to a Waltz lesson aka just like he danced so nicely in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Deathly Hallows Cast Watch: John Hurts Talks Ollivander, Dave Legano Returns as Greyback and more from The Leaky Cauldron.

John Hurt is currently in New York for the Tribeca Film Festival, and thanks to AMC, there is a new interview online with the actor at the festival regarding his return as Mr. Ollivander in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As readers will recall, we've reported several times about his potential return to the part as witnessed last month when he said he was in negotiations for the part. Those negotiations must have now concluded favorably, as today John Hurt says that he is looking forward to working on the films this year. "It was great doing it the first time, and it's quite like revisiting Quentin Crisp, except not quite 33 years in between!"It's a very crucial part of the last [book], if you think about the implications of it," Hurt said.

Also, while it has long been expected, thanks to SS for the heads up that the official page of actor Dave Legeno has been updated to reflect he will soon be filming again on "the final installment of the Harry Potter series as the role of 'Fenrir Greyback."

Finally, UHP owled regarding a character actor and comedian named Pete Perry has a bit part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Thanks to Google, we found his website, which reads "Pete travelled to Leavesden with fellow supporting actor Louise Walpole to take part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where they put in a gruelling twelve-and-half [hour]day on set. Needless to say, we are not allowed to say anything about this..." You can see a photo of the actor, here.

"Paranoia" Core of Half-Blood Prince Story Says Dan Radcliffe

Wizard Universe has posted a new interview with actor Dan Radcliffe, who weighs in on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In the article, Dan address the question of what he feels is at the core of the upcoming sixth Harry Potter movie:

"Paranoia. There's a very strong scene in the film that's all about Harry's increasing paranoia about Draco Malfoy becoming a member of the Death Eaters. Also, it seems a big part of all the films, but death. We're even closer to it in this one because Dumbledore is dying and knows he has to die. And the image of this old man knowing all that is a very very sad one. But he carries on anyway. He doesn't give up and he absolutely fights until the last minute."

Dan also reflects on which is his favorite scene in the film, one which involves a Weasley who is our King, as played by Rupert Grint.

I think that I like the quieter scenes. There's a lot of action but the quieter scenes will, generally speaking, be where the heart is. That's not to say there aren't some emotionally quite intense action sequences, but when there are just two people sitting down talking the stakes are very much higher, emotionally. My favorite scene in the film, actually, is one that I'm not in, which is probably not that surprising because I hate watching myself. It's with Rupert (Ron) in Quidditch practice, and its genuine laugh-out-loud funny. And I don't laugh out loud that easily.

Emma Watson on "Mean Girl" Lavender Brown for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

They say the path to true love is never an easy one, as evident in the case of Ron and Hermione in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Actress Emma Watson weighs in on this fact, as she describes in a new interview with Wizard Universe, the actions of the character of "mean girl" Lavender Brown (played in the film by Jessie Cave). Quotage:

"There's this mean girl called Lavender who has a bit of a crush on Ron. It's leaked in the beginning of the film that Hermione and Ron are finally going to get it together, and then she steps in. Hermione is sensitive and quite mean, really. And it's very much about how she sort of despises Lavender. Not really because she's taken Ron away, but because she's kind of the opposite of Hermione. So it's very comic and also quite sad for her. It's very Ron based, her part.

Emma Watson goes on to note that she remains a fan of the books, having "read each of them three or four times." The actress also gives high praise to fellow actor Rupert Grint for his performance in Half-Blood Prince, echoing earlier sentiments from actor Dan Radcliffe on the humor found in Ron's Quidditch scenes. She also reflects on the aftermath of the events on the Astronomy Tower.

"What really stuck out for me was Ron's Quidditch scene. It was so funny. Rupert's comic timing is just brilliant and he's so funny. There's this great scene where Hermione and Lavender are fighting over Ron, and we had a bit of fun with that. With Dumbledore's death scene it was absolutely freezing that night, and it was a very sad scene, really."

^ lol, I think you're the first person that I've ever met to call Ginny a favorite! I think her character is a little bit annoying sometimes, both in the books & the films :(

Awww Ginny is my favorite too. But I understand why people don't like her... I tend to interpret her actions under the context of Tom Riddle; I refuse to believe that a strong girl would have survived such trauma without any changes at all. Seriously is there any other underdeveloped character than her? Stupid JK.
Lol sorry for my rambling; I get pissy whenever I think about JK's "all women retire and have babies" crapilogue.

(But what about the films? Bonnie Wright barely got any lines, and she didn't get Ginny's.)

Rupert Grint on Ron's Changes in Half-Blood Prince

A new interview with actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) is online from WizardUniverse.com which features the actor discussing a number of subjects related to the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film. Speaking in regards to the evolution of his character over the past six films, Mr. Grint relates how "It just sort of happens." He continues by saying:

"The first three films really do feel like a different person. I think Ron is more grown up throughout the films. The next one we see him grow up a lot more because the wizard world is becoming quite a scary place. And we see him protect his sister, and we see brotherly stuff that he does in the sixth one."

The actor goes on to relate that the maturity level of the books seems to change when "...Dumbledore's army starts to form and we have to stand up to Voldemort. That's when things turned a bit nasty. This sixth one is quite intense and they definitely get darker." Mr. Grint also speaks to the new found attention his character gets in the films from love interest Lavender Brown (played by actress Jessie Cave) in the film. Noting that those intimate scenes are "worse" to watch on screen, Rupert says:

"This one was actually okay because my relationship with Jessie [Cave, who plays Ron's love interest] was quite fun and she was really over the top and quite intense. But it was an awkward scene to do because we'd only met each other two days before. One of the first scenes we did was the kissing one."

The interview continues on with Rupert relating the experience of creating the chair for his broomstick for his Quidditch scenes and his relation to the destruction of the Burrow: "That was an exciting part. We were standing quite close to it, a burning building, and it was quite scary and I think it got a bit out of control. That was a lot of fun."

The full interview can be read via this link.

Matt Lewis Talks Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Actor Matt Lewis, who portrays Neville Longbottom, has given a new interview where he discusses working with various cast members, new and old, for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Readers will recall that TLC first told you actor Domhnall Gleeson (photos here) would be playing the part of Bill Weasley in Deathly Hallows. In this new interview with LewisLovers.com Matt speaks to working with cast members such as Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) again, as well as Domhnall and his father, acclaimed actor Brendan Gleeson (Mad- Eye Moody):

Megan: Which new actors cast in Deathly Hallows are you looking forward to working with?
Matt: Hmm, I don't really know of many of the new since I've only worked with Dan, Rupert and Emma so far.
Matt: Do you know of some that are new and I'll tell you if I'm looking forward to working with them ;)
Megan: I'll take a look haha
Megan: Helen Mcrory will be playing Draco's mom
Megan: and Domhnall Gleeson will be playing Bill Weasley
Matt: Oh yea, Helen McRory for sure because she was supposed to be in OotP but I believe was pregnant so had to cancel
Megan: Yea, but I think that Helena was a better Bellatrix and she is more suited for Narcissa
Megan: so i guess it turned out for the best
Matt: Helena Bonham Carter stepped in and was fantastic but I am looking forward to working with Helen McRory
Megan: yea, she seems really nice
Matt: Absolutely, you're right
Matt: Brendan Gleeson for me is one of the most fantastic people I have ever worked with
Matt: He's just such a nice guy and so talented
Megan: Yea and he seems pretty funny too
Matt: So I'm sure his son will be equally as great

Hogwarts hijinks

LIGHTEN UP: Despite the battles with Voldemort, Daniel Radcliffe (above right with Michael Gambon as Dumbledore) calls the sixth film “absolutely charming and very funny.”

The hotly anticipated ‘Half-Blood Prince’ promises more humorous moments than in previous ‘Harry Potter’ installments, but a major character will die.

Reporting from Watford, England -- Daniel Radcliffe has spent half his life in the role of boy wizard Harry Potter, so it's difficult to imagine any surprises presenting themselves on the set of the sixth film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which arrives in theaters July 15.

"You would think that, but truly every film is different, and this time around the refreshing aspect was the adolescent romantic core of this film, which should be absolutely charming and very funny," Radcliffe said during a break from shooting. "So from that point of view, it is quite a different film, because we haven't had anything that has had this sort of light and warm and funny a core before."

Radcliffe had just finished shooting a holiday party scene on an especially vibrant set at an airplane factory that a decade ago was converted into the stone-walled Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It was a brisk February afternoon in 2008, and the actor had no idea that a Christmas would come and go before "Half-Blood Prince" appeared in theaters; the sixth Potter adventure was scheduled for release last November but, to the disappointment of fans, Warner Bros. executives announced last summer that they would postpone the film for eight months to maximize its market position.

It remains to be seen whether fans will hold a grudge against the film for the delay -- many pledged to boycott it or at least skip the opening weekend to express their ire -- but it's hard to imagine the popcorn juggernaut can be slowed, much less stopped. The last film, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," pulled in $938 million worldwide, making it the most successful edition since the first installment, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in 2001, pulled in $974 million. The franchise has brought in close to $4.5 billion, a number that would make any muggle studio executive believe in magic.

There were seven "Potter" novels published, but the studio and filmmakers will split the final book into two films, a decision they attribute to the action-packed density of the story, not to the allure of squeezing out one more box-office jackpot from the series. Those closing chapters of Potter's grand cinema adventure are scheduled for release in November 2010 and July 2011.

While the fifth Potter film was dedicated largely to the title character, "Half-Blood Prince" will bundle plot lines for a wider section of the ensemble and set the stage for the intense crescendos that will dominate the final two movies.

This sixth installment delves into the creepy past of villain Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), introduces a key newcomer in bon vivant Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) and also climaxes, as readers of the novels know, with one of the major characters giving up the ghost.

Despite that grim loss, director David Yates, who also directed the fifth film and has been contracted to helm the franchise through to its conclusion, said there is "a charm and sweetness" to this particular installment of the J.K. Rowling literary series, and that will be reflected on-screen. The status-obsessed Slughorn and his machinations inject plenty of humor into the film (and may remind some viewers of the comic relief provided by Kenneth Branagh and his vainglorious Gilderoy Lockhart in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"), and a centerpiece moment is Ron's slapstick debut as a Quidditch player.

Radcliffe said the scene will be a hilarious treat for franchise fans, but not everyone was thrilled during the filming -- Rupert Grint, as Ron, had long envied the actors who got to swoop across the screen in the sport that is a sort of flying-broomstick version of lacrosse.

"I found out it was not as much fun to film as I hoped," said Grint, who was left weary and sore by the mechanized broom handle and had headaches from staring at the giant green screen that provides the backdrop canvas for computer artists to later fill in with crowds and the towering playing field. "It's going to be more fun to watch than it was to film."

There's also all that romance as the students, now in their late teens, learn the bittersweet lessons of love. Emma Watson, who fills out the trio of pals as Hermione, said that after so many years of battling magical beasties it was a treat for the students of Hogwarts to tussle with their own passions and enjoy some pratfalls.

"It's so much fun, and I'm really enjoying it," Watson said sitting in her pink-bedecked dressing room. "And it makes a change, because the last one was very heavy, and it is really nice to have that. . . . It's a nice break for me. And for the fans, I think it's going to be very, very funny."

Shell Cottage Nears Completion

Construction is nearing completion on Shell Cottage, currently being built along the coastline of Wales for use in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Thanks to TLC reader Victoria, we have some nice new photos of the cottage, with the front door now in place, and an attic room or copula and twin chimneys now added to the structure. You can also see more of the beautiful location of this cottage (gorgeous in the sunlight, even with the scaffolding) as well as these photos of the platform now holding new mounds of dirt, which will serve as the site where Dobby is laid to rest. As reported many times previously, location filming with many of the primary cast members will take place starting Monday May 11th at Freshwater Beach, in Pembrokeshire area of Wales.

Um I always pictured Shells Cottage to be on a cliff not a beach. I guess we all picture different things when it comes to the books but I really thought it was on a cliff not I mind.

FILMING UPDATE from The Leaky Cauldron

A reminder today that location filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is set to take place starting next Monday, May 11 and going through the 15th for scenes involving Shell Cottage.

I'm feeling a bit out about this. Clémence Poésy people have not confirmed she's back for one thing and Helena B-C said in some interview that's she's not fliming till June or July but I could be wrong. I so hope Clémence is in it.

Rumor Alert on Miranda Richardson Back for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Rumor Alert: Credible word has reached TLC that actress Miranda Richardson is in negotiations to reprise her role as scandal monger and Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore author Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. TLC spoke directly to reps for Ms. Richardson today, and when asked if they could deny or confirm the report, was told several times "no comment."

Readers will recall recently producer David Heyman told Empire magazine they are indeed still casting for the final films in the Harry Potter movies. As such, we must keep this new report about Ms. Richardson, who gave such a delightful performance as the nasty Rita in Goblet of Fire, firmly in the rumor category for now, until Warner Bros makes a formal announcement regarding the cast of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

This will be so awesome.
