Let's discuss James Bond Movie themes...

I really abhor Another way to Die by Alicia Keys and Jack White. The song tries too hard to sound "bond-ish" but totally ends up sounding like crap...

Why can't they make music like Tomorrow Never dies by Sheryl Crow or The World is not Enough by Garbage...those songs were so fitting or a Bond film...

the casino royale theme was crap, and so is the new one. (looking forward to seeing the movie)

my favourite theme is "A View To a Kill"

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted Amy Winehouse to sing the new Bond theme...it would have instantly become a classic like Shirley Bassey's are.

i do agree with you, the new theme sucks! Sucks as bad as the die another day theme did. I loved Goldene eye, you only live twice, nobody does it better, goldfinger...and most of the older themes. Living daylights wasnt so much of a favourite though, it lacked that classis element to it. I expected something really nice from Alicia, Amy Winehouse and Mike Ronson would be amazing!!

I agree with you all, the last one is terrible, I sometimes like Jack White, this one is not one of those times, and the duet with Alicia Keys sounds kind of ridiculous. However the Casino Royale one was not so bad, Chris Cornell is definitely not my idol, but the song has it's moments... sometimes it even reminds me of the on her majesty's secret service theme, which I think is by far the best of all.
Anyway the old ones, from russia with love, goldfinger, etc were OK, but now, they are getting worse with the time.

I didn't like the Casino Royale theme either.
I love a "view to a kill! and "the world is not enough" .
"Diamonds are forever" are a classic though!!

goldfinger was pretty bloody cool too. as the most popular that is. from russia with love was brill as well. i am biased however--i adore john barry's most of the crap attempts since....all except--garbage and shirley manson. they got about the closest to that kind of sound, with the world is not enough whilst keeping it contemporary than ANYONE.

^ I totally agree with you about the world is not enough. That song was right up there with the Shirley Bassey classics. Beyond that it's just a really great song that stands on it's own without the whole Bond thing.

The new one, from what I've heard of it anyway, is an "almost, but not quite" kind of thing. They need a vocalist with a really powerful voice, and even though I love Alicia Keys, I don't think she fits the bill.

I don't know why, but I feel like Massive Attack could do something pretty amazing for a Bond film.

^i think they need a vocalist who can truly embody that torch-like quality of shirley....otherwise it's lost and loses the spirit of bond scores for me.

i think goldfrapp should compose an original score for one. i know,it's obvious and it's been brought up time and again after felt mountain but their own masterful production skills is a haunting reminder of john's mastery.

not that am a Beyonce fanatic or anything but I think she could do a good Bond movie score...she knows how to push the boundary with her voice...needs someone whose voice can hit a climax. Also Jessica Hudson and Diana Krall could do a Bond soundtrack justice. Alicia would be good if the song was arranged for her...remembr her in If i aint got you...

^ i agree with you, Diana Krall can make a good bondish song too, and sheryl crowe is good too in Tomorrow Never Dies.
and i just heard the alicia's version. i can't feel that the song is for james bond. it's just not so melodic and very bond's song.

I wanted Amy Winehouse for the Bond theme!!! Who cares about her problems - the girl can SING and she would be perfect for the Bond theme.

Shes' the closest thing to Shirley Bassey, that we have.

I don't mind the new Bond song. But it's nothing special. It's just another pop song to me.

Can't believe noone has mentioned Live and Let Die! My fave Bond theme along with Goldfinger.

Oh and Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon, from The Spy Who Loved Me.

..I think everyone just tried to forget the time A-Ha (taaaake... ooooon... meee) did a Bond theme

Agreed with helmut.newton about the new song being nothing special.

The 5 best/worst bond theme songs ever

Bond movies often have some of the best themes of any movies. Sometimes they get caught up by trends and come up with some horrid songs what are yours>

Mine in no particular order

good
gOLDEN EYE...Tina Turner
You only live twice....Nancy Sinatra
Diamonds are forever.....Shirley Bassey
Nobody does it better...Carly Simon
For your eyes only...Sheena Easton

bad
Living daylights...a-ha
Die another day...Madonna
Another way to die...Jack White/ Alicia Keys
"You Know My Name"..Chric Cornell
"A View to a Kill...Duran Duran(havent heard this one just needed a 5th one)

Best:
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
Goldeneye - Tina Turner

Bad?
I need to listen to them for a reminder.

I think the best Bond theme song is "A View to a Kill" by Duran Duran, because the other songs for example "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton is a good song, but it's a litlle bit boring and the Duran's song have good rhythm & music and indicated to dance.
