Haruki, please don't slag him off. He had a reason to believe the things that he believed. The man actually forgave the person that shot him. Anyone that does that is an Angel.

I agree to an extent, but in death, people always seem to start idol type of worship and forget one's beliefs/actions that weren't so positive (remember when Reagan died, people acted as if he was a saint)....I don't think gay and fashion are the overrding themes of today (but yes one cannot deny that there's a direct, substantial relationship between the two groups). As for him being lovey dovey, he's pretty conserative....what I do find so interesting is the Cafeteria Catholics and their selective reading/applying of the tenets of Catholicsm to their lives.....using your ex) would be a) the pope is anti-gay marriage and anti birth control....but many people have come to dismiss the birth control thing as saying he's out of touch, yadda yadda, but staunchly oppose gay marriage saying its against the church's/God's will.......hate is a strong word, but remember, religion has always been used a tool to control the masses and maintain order.......it is not disresptful to talk about the topics you, or others have today...they define his legacy......

I couldn't agree with you more Theory. There is so much hypocracy isn't there....and the 'selectiveness' in people's approaches to the doctrines.

I do think that Pope John Paul has contributed so much to global politics and was seminal in the collapse of communist states in eastern europe. Not sure the geo-political maps would be as they are today without him.

I can understand polish people's sense of loss. He did so much for Poland.

Even though I'm not Catholic and do not condone some of their preachings, I admire The Pope mostly for his part as one of the greatest leaders in the war against the communist domination. He lead his country against the soviet invasion and helped empower the democracy all over the world. The attack in 1981 was organized by the KGB, in an attempt to stop his battle against the dictatorial communist regime. He was one of the biggest democratic leaders of all time. May he rest in peace.

Haruki this is a fashion site it is not a gay site nor is it necessairly gay orientated. Everyone is accepted regardless of religion, gender, sexual orientation or political persuasion as long as they play by the rules.

I hope some people here and in other message boards I've been to also realize that slandering the man so soon after his death is doing the same to his followers. Stripes, up there, clearly states that people see the man like a father...please consider their grief right now...it's not just about saying that he may be wrong in your viewpoint, but have respect.

Besides, his actions to help bring down Communism were significant...if he hadn't done so, we might be living in an entirely different world these days. Don't forget that it wasn't too long ago that the Berlin Wall was taken down, no matter how long ago it seems...it really wasn't. I hope you all have a sense to appreciate the good that the man has done in this world. Although you may not agree with him on his views on gays/birth control/etc, respect him. I certainly do, even though I don't agree with him on gays or birth control - but that's his belief system, and one thing that's important in this world is respect what others believe in. I think there are more productive ways to express your disagreement than going around and being negative about a man so soon after he's died. No one wants that disrepect, and I doubt you'd want someone to disrepect you after you've died.

I agree with all that,and it's even ironic that someone religious,ignores what the bible says,and worships the pope... when inside the bible says exactly what and who is the "antitesis" of christ... But I didn't wanted to get "off topic" ...

It's certainly not wrong to disagree with him (I myself disagree with him), but there's more than just that to consider. With such a public figure, there are a lot of people that look up to him as a father-figure...and who wants someone to go around bad-mouthing their "father" right after his death? It's respect and common sense.
