Elle UK even has instructions on how to make you're own tie-dye items, and Prada's whole look this season is all about shading and tie-dye, and even though I would usually stay away from the whole thing, it's appearance on the catwalk has prompted me to invest in that Prada sweater which is too cute and looks great with delicate gold jewellery. But even though I love it it doesn't seem to have caught on...what do you think??

I don't really like it. It depends on the pattern, etc. but it's not my thing.. ;)

I love the Prada tie dyed pieces. I usually don't like tie dye at all, but I think they did it very well esp. since it's done in muted shades. Bright colours remind me of hippies or summertime in Florida. I think if it's done subtly it can be very cool. For some reason I'm also digging the navy and white combo as well (Michael Kors and C&C California). I think Ombre dye is a very cool process as well.

As expected from the ss04 shows and thanks to Prada, Givenchy, Williamson, Kokosalaki & ...Stella , Tie Dye is HUGE (at least here in europe).
Anything goes, from freshed up chic a-la Prada down to affordable flea market Ts, wrap skirts, pyjamas and.. pareos.

True batik/tie-dye effects are creating unique paterns and this is what i like about the tie-dye fabrics. If the colours are mixed in a 'fresh' way one can have glorious effects.

I really like the Prada tie-dye, the colours were much more softer and muted that the shades normally used for tie-dye. I too am being drawn to tie-dyed pieces, and if I found something similar too but definately not a copy of a Prada item, I would buy it.
Tie-dye clothes do have some negative associations though, which I was reminded of today when I saw a teacher in my school walking down the corridor in a shapeless skirt and top in lurid green and blue tie-dye. I thought to myself, that is an example of where fashion trends go wrong!

Batik is a really expensive fabric, and it's more because of the hard work it takes to make it... there's a fake version, which is a real batik printed on muslin or calico... I bought 10 yards for my textile class, which came up to 100 dollars in total...which I think is a great price, because the detailing is so unique... Now im wondering what to do with it...

its not that expensive if it is not handmade or silk,
even when mass produced on cotton, jerseys or mixes
it's really unique, beautiful and alive.

-Lena notes down to create small batik line for ss05- :p

Tie-dying your own clothes is pretty easy; it just makes a big mess.

I think CdG made shirts and trousers with "spray" effects for men this spring and the theme was "self-effacing" :) which looked very "tie dye", too :).
