A true creative, Tomi Kono started his career as a classically trained Japanese hair stylist. His passion for hair soon lead him to begin exploring more creative hair and head designs, leading to Tomi’s very own head prop designs.
In 2007 Tomi moved to London and branched into session styling, quickly shooting for Dazed & Confused, i-D, and 10 Magazine. He continued to exhibit his headpieces and began using these in his editorials, making bespoke pieces, which have been featured in many editorials such as Italian Vogue, French Vogue, and V Magazine.
In 2013 Tomi moved to New York and joined Julian Watson Agency. Since then Tomi has shot regularly for Teen Vogue, Interview, W Magazine, Dior Magazine, Numéro, Harper’s Bazaar, T: New York Times Style Magazine along side photographers Gregory Harris, Richard Burbridge, Ben Hassett, Kacper Kasprzyk, Santiago & Maruico, Roe Etheridge, Collier Schorr, Greg Kadel, and Tom Munro.
Tomi Kono has collaborated with leading designers such as Junya Watanabe, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Jil Sander, FRAME Denim, and with stylists Ludivine Poiblanc, Marie Chaix, Havanna Laffitte, to name a few.
Tomi continues to push boundaries as an inventive and cutting edge hair and head props stylist.
