Things to do in Moscow

I searched about it but couldn't find something other than touristic attractions.. I'm about to visit Moscow and probably stay there for a while for business. What do you think about the city in general?

i have never been but i have heard the subway system is beautiful. lucky you!

Moscow metro is sometimes beautifully decorated, in fact, it looks like an underground museum. One of the reasons is that when it was built it was supposed to be an underground shelter in case of war, so it was built to be pleasing to the eyes and to 'promote'

communist way of life. Hence many mosaics and sculptures dedicated to the life of Soviet people.

The most interesting stations of Moscow metro are: Kievskaya (blue line, west center - mosaics dedicated to the life of Ukrainian people), Komsomolskaya (circle line, north-east - mosaics on the ceiling), Mayakovskaya (green line, north - the winner of grand-prizes, decorated in a cool way), Ploshchad Revolutsii (blue line, center - sculptures of Russian workers, soldiers, and just normal people), Arbatskaya (blue line, center - just nice interior), Chkalovskaya (light green line, east center - one of the newly built stations, futuristic minimalistic design).

If you are an active person....u will love it ;)
Its a busy place with lots of attractive people. ^_^

It's a beautiful city with lots to do, especially if you're into the arts. Touristy must-sees are St. Basil's Cathedral (the outside is much more impressive than the interior), the Kremlin, plastic fantastic Lenin in his heavily guarded mausoleum, and the huge McDonald's where there will inevitably be really long lines.

Def. go to the Bolshoi for a ballet or an opera. Get tickets straight from the box office.

For museums, I loved the Pushkin Fine Arts museum, and also the Tretyakov and the New Tretyakov. There's also huge open-air art marketplace where artists sell their paintings, but the quality is so-so and the fees tend to be exorbitant. Still, there are some cool things if you're looking to buy some art.

Thanks Sanrio

For shopping, check out Stoleshnikov Pereulok (pereulok means a small street, like an alley) - a very cute quiant tiny street behind the Red Square with Yohji Yamamoto, Vivienne Westwood and other stores. It's a pain to find though  . And, of course, there is LeForm www.leform.ru

The Pushkin Square is good for people watching, because it is the spot that people designate for meeting their date. Moscow's main movie theater is there as well.

I would really suggest a trip to St.Petersburg if you find time. It's gorgeous.

Most of the sights have been mentioned already but if you want to shop for Russian designers in Moscow go to:
-Podium
18 Novinskiy bulevard
They also have Alberta Ferretti, Celine, Chloé, Donna Karan, DKNY, Helmut Lang, Julien Macdonald, Lanvin, Missoni, Moschino, Narciso Rodriguez, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Vivienne Westwood etc.
-Bosco di Ciliegi
Red Square 3
-Marki Boutique
ul. Pokrovka 17
-Cox
ul. Maroseika 9/2

For art definately go to the State Tretyakov Gallery (10, Lavrushinsky Per.).
There are also some nice cinemas like Iskusstvo (Arbatskaja ploshtshad 14) and Illusion (Kotelnitsheskaja Nab. 1/15) and restaurants such as Shinok (1095 Goda), Cafe Pushkin (Tverskoy Bulvar 26a) and Russkoje Bistro (Tverskaja 19a). There are also lots of designer stores on Tverskaja, they call it the Rodeo Drive of Moscow:

-Boutique James (Tverskaja 28): Helmut Lang, Issey Miyake, Y-3, Victor & Rolf
-Boutique Kalipso (Tverskaja-Yamskaja 4): Chloé, Moschino etc.
-Parad (Tverskaja 6): Celine, Christian Dior, Helmut Lang, Kenzo, Givenchy, Emilio Pucci, Christian Lacroix, Etro etc.

There are also many designer stores on Petrovka but just to mention a few:
-Alberta Ferretti (Petrovka 10)
-Miu Miu (Petrovka 2)

On Nikolaeva 4 there's a store called Italmoda where they sell Bottega Veneta, Casadei, Givenchy, Jil Sander, Valentino etc.

Designer boutiques on Stoleshnikov Pereulok to name a few:
-Louis Vuitton (Stoleshnikov Pereulok 10/18)
-Jimmy Choo (Stoleshnikov Pereulok 14)
-Hermès (Stoleshnikov Pereulok 12)

On Tretyakovsky there are also many designer stores:
-Yves Saint Laurent (Tretyakovsky 11)
-Prada (Tretyakovsky 4)
-Gucci (Tretyakovsky 6)
