tropical weather attire

softgrey - the Isabel marant pants and marni top would be lovely.....you need to watch you don't take too much - thats what I always do and I end up not wearing half of it. what about a couple of babydoll tops to wear with your shorts.

footwear - one pair of heels to wer with your dress and say two pairs of flat sandals.....your white prada sandals and maybe a pair like these

and some cool jewellery....chunky bangles (will look very Jackie O).

i don't see the problem with taking 'too much'...
i am not traveling around....
i am just getting to the hotel and staying there...
so i figure i can take as much as will fit in my suitcase...:p...
and it's BIG....!!

3 prs of shoes....???...
impossible!!!...
i'm trying to keep it to six...
*there is also a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding and a fabulous new resort that we are going to go and check out for drinks...may go there every night...you should see this place...!!

thats the swimming pool pavilion...
i wouldnt mind coming along...!!....
looks beautiful.....enjoy yourself softie....

gorgeous dress soft!
even more gorgeous resort...
is that your private villa?

...
i wish...
i found that place after everything was already booked...
apparently it is new??
and if you see the prices...
well---we'll just go for drinks...:innocent:...

i do wish i could stay there just for my last night...
but i think it's too late to change things now...

i am having serious doubts about that floral dress......
well- both florals actually...
:ermm:...

oh no !!! maybe its just hard to picture because its cold in NY....why don't you take an alternative.....so you can judge when you are there

I love the Junya dress....it really looks great on you.
I guess it's too casual for the wedding though, and not as festive as the florals. I would wear it at night, so you can avoid the suntan lotion issue.

I agree with helena--it will be much easier to judge once you are there. And if you are taking a boatload of stuff anyway, you won't lack for choices.

What is the Dries top like? If it's one of those ethereal/floaty things, maybe you could dress it up?

^^^her dries top is gorgeous laika!!!!! i am not sure how long it comes though whether you could wear it as a super short dress with heels

haha...helena...
don't you have the same dries top in another colour???...

:innocent:...

it's too short to wear as a dress plus it's totally open from the bust down...
:ninja:...

laika- thanks-i am def planning to wear the junya in the evening....^_^

went shopping again today and found nothing!!!...
well- that is not totally true...
i was inspired by mary and i got an adorable diane von furstenberg billowy print top to go with my blue linen shorts...
i'm quite please with that actually....it's exactly what i was looking for
another good but more casual evening look...will wear with silver thongs

*i can't find a pic of the top but it is exactly this dress but shorter...to the hip...
(this is a bad pic-sorry)
not too long...not too short...just right...:D
i feel like goldilocks!!...
barneys.com

* i also saw a missoni dress at bergdorf that would probably be perfectly amazing...
but i am not that desperate...yet...:ninja:...

softie....just want to say one thing....
-you are going to look divine no matter what....you always do...you have beautiful clothes already....and you are a beautiful person....and you are going to a beautiful place!!!...

all is well in the world....

i think my favourite silhouette for tropical/hot climates is a babydoll dress with gladiator sandals. i hope you'll be roadtesting the proenza schouler aloha print dress. i wont be able to wear mine for months!

this thread reminds me of the seinfeld episode when estelle and frank costanza were obsessing about their "cabana wear" clothing.:D

whenever i'm in hot climates i end up wearing black quite a lot because it natually has a higher spf than white clothing. also i dislike going into places that have excessive air conditioning, so i always bring longer sleeve tops as well.

i like that junya dress a lot!

i like that dvf print alot for you, reminds me of marni
the colors and print seem like they would fit your style really well

DVF looks good. :flower: I like all the blue and white you are doing.
I hope you're planning to take lots of pics....:judge:
I want to see your outfits in action! :p

thanks adore...you are always so positive and kind..:flower:...

thanks cavanaugh- i def think the dvf looks like marni as well...
right up my alley-colours and all...:p

lucy- i posted the PS dress on the first page...
i bought it expressly for this trip...i absolutely agree about the babydoll thing...
so I got another one this weekend... ha!
i am in LOVE with this thing!!!...
will be great as a beachy dress/cover up
but also will look cute for an evening over jeans back in the city...
the colours and pattern could not be more perfect imo...
another dream come true...

persistence def pays off!..
lucy...for me....the shopping and planning is part of the fun of the trip!!.
my friends and I go shopping and then I make dinner for them while we review what works and what doesn't...it's fun...
it's like styling my own event!!...
:p

here's the new babydoll..

(i've bought other things as well---just not necessarily for the trip...:innocent:...)

i like the patchwork type dress!

i also think you should check out bcbg max azria and jill stuart for more floaty light colored dresses.

good suggestions lucy...!!
i think that jill stuart is a little too 'barbie' for me this season...
and none of the bcbg i have run across has been right--
either dark colours or white...
but they have a store in soho which i only recently realized so it may be worth it to stop by and check that out...

thanks doll!!...
...

If your going to be walking around (like in the city) i'd suggest "flowy" material, like cotton and linen (like others had said).

If your at the beach all day long then go for comfortable stuff, i'd wear a white tank top and change sarongs every 2-3 days just for a change.

Then for evening you can have more "fancy" clothes as you won't sweat as much (hang on there, not saying you don't at all, just LESS)

thats wat i tend to stick to....

here's what i wore today:

or
http://www.supload.us/free/CIMG7901.JPG/view/
if the first link didn't work

forgot to mention one last thing:

avoid any shoes that give you problems under normal circumstances....
with the humidity, you'll be getting blisters real fast so stick to some nice slip ons, flip flops and sandals...(hence my pose showing off my new gold flat sandals)
you'll be a lot more comfortable....

and lastly, be prepared for some rain just in case....when it does rain it can do so quite heavily and your shoes will get soaked...its up to you ,if they are fragile then remove them and walk barefoot, you can dry your feet later with tissue...or you can stick to nice platic flip flops......

I'm bumping this thread as I'm kinda lost about what to wear to a tropical climate..

What did you wear in the end softgrey? :)
