Formerly D Lui Repubblica, U la Repubblica-- has potential. CD Emanuele Farneti seems to be making the effort to repent for past sins with some solid effort in U for men and D for women. although art direction under him remains reliably substandard. U conjures glimpses of possible past glories Italian GQ, AnOtherMan, Arena Homme+, and even L’UOMO— if I'm in a very gernous mood. Like his D, it’s far from those heights yet of course, but that’s forgivable since it’s a supplement and still outshines most of the monthly men’s publications out there. U and Italian Esquire still employ some talent, it seems.

The strongest U issue by far, and all solid stories— given the mandated casts of twinks/boys and modern fashions. Whether Emanuele can/will/care to keep up he standard is another thing entirely. Reto’s “Don’t Walk” is simply amazing visuals. The usual prerequisite cast of twinks and even Anthony’s tedious designs are elevated to solid whimsy, spectacle and graphic visuals that transcend teh expected. Too bad the story isn’t given a handful more pages.

I've got the issue today...it was good and hope they get better...it is better printed than D...

Wish Farneti was this good back in the days. D is better than Italian Vogue now, and U continues what he started at L'Uomo. These are the magazines to keep now. With the right team (art/creative director) he's working well.
