UK Elle February 2020 : Greta Gerwig by Mariana Maltoni

Such a generic cover, and it looks like the US edition to me. Also, not sure whether most readers in the UK recognise/know her. Really odd choice for a cover.

So odd to me that to promote a film with a cast that includes Meryl, Saoirse, Florence, Laura, Emma, and Timothée, Greta is the one scoring US Vogue and UK Elle and some of the others got pittance or nothing.

I love Greta, but this cover ain’t it.

Yet again, I mistook a thread of hers for Greta the child activist.

This somehow reminds me of the Lena Dunham US Vogue cover.

The tagline... make Hollywood great again.... if this were the American edition, Farrah would have been crucified.

^ Also thought it would be Greta Thunberg based on the title preview, lol.

Very odd choice.

Maybe it's just like the Katie Holmes cover where Farrah initially wanted someone else....

Nice to see her here. At least she’s landing covers for her stellar work even if she isn’t managing to claw a nomination anywhere from the hands of over decorated males.

She’s getting loads of nominations for writing Little Women, but, sadly, not for directing it. I hope the Oscars change that. If Todd Phillips gets a directing nomination over her, I will riot in the streets.

Looks too middle-aged womens' magazine for me.

This is bland and generic beyond belief - and a far cry from the way Greta photographed by Annie Leibovitz for US Vogue. A total non-event of a cover and I’m failing to comprehend just how this would allure potential readers to make a purchase. All sorts of awful.

The second slide is apparently the subscribers’ cover.

The newsstand cover is classic and I like it. It’s not that great that I’d actually buy it but when I saw that subscribers’ cover... I’d take the newsstand cover over that disastrous cover ANY DAY. Too bad I’ll receive it in the mail.

Initial thoughT after seeing the subs cover:

“is that Paris Jackson?”

Flicked through it on the newsstand, there was nothing much that caught my eye.

Every shot in that cover story with Greta looks like they're trying to hide something about her body, as if it was taken three days after giving birth. If a fashion magazine can't come up with outfits that flatter a Hollywood actress, they're wasting everyone's time.

Having seen the digital copy, there are actually a bunch of features that I'd like to read so will have to get this issue. Agree with you regarding the cover edit. Utterly unremarkable and she's not photogenic at all. It's doubly sad because it seems Mariana Maltoni is slowly moving up the ranks after her Vogue Brazil cover. By right, her work for UK Elle should be the best each time because they were the first mainstream publications to give her a cover. So far it seems that her creativity dwindles every time she shoots a celeb or star designer whereas her fashion edits are still superb.

Speaking of fashion edits, thoroughly impressed with A New Day! It not only features the gorgeous Charlee and Lameka, but I like that it stayed true to the original collections editorial format championed by Carine. Where the focus wasn't only on a series of full-length looks, but a portrait here and a glimpse of sensuality there. UK Elle's fashion team has really been stepping it up ever since Anne Marie left, will give them that!

Could someone post the main features, please? The open marriage, the gender identity and the wellness burn sounds like a really good reading- magazines like elle and vogue uk r so expansive here in Brazil now :(
