Once upon a time, I practically worshipped the ground that Daria walked on. It was that unforgettable August 2004 Vogue Italia cover by Steven Meisel that did it for me. But in recent years, I can hardly look at her. She almost seems to be phoning it in, not making much of an effort at all. I'm all for rawness and realism but a little make-up can also go a long way for some models. And sorry, but to me, Daria is just one of those models that NEEDS make-up, otherwise I'd rather not be bothered. And even her photography ventures (Equipment ads with Moss) don't exactly make me salivate more more, but I digress.
And then there's this cover. She's got a modest amount of make-up and she's pretty again. But the post-production is sloppy. They left the upper eye areas raw, perhaps to give a sense of realism but every other sign of age has been erased which makes it look odd and unconvincing. I'm hoping the editorial is good and brings back the old Daria I loved and adored.
